It is so hard when you lose a chick and I'm so sorry. I lost the youngest of my chicks after going to 4 different vets and I still cry 8 months later.
The only thing you can do is keep an eye on the other 3 and make sure they are getting fed enough. Sometimes the youngest can get pushed to the side by the older chicks and not get fed enough.
Unfortunantly it's part of breeding but it doesn't make it feel any better. Good luck with the other 3 and I'm sending prayers and good thoughts your way!

My heart goes out to you. It is horrible going to check on the darlings and finding one has passed away. It often is the youngest, but the parents seem to know when there is something wrong.

The number of times I have found one in the ignored state - cold, but not dead. I bring it inside and place it in the incubator for warmth and start hand feeding it - usually around the clock only to find that it dies a couple of days later. When this happens, I usually wish I had found it dead, because I get so attached to them when I sit up at night - all night feeding them around the clock...

But, I can guarantee that if I found another cold, ignored baby I would still pull it and try to save its life...

Sometimes I wonder if the parents feel they don't have enough food or nutrients to feed all the clutch and that's why they let the youngest die. Make sure the adults have ample food. It's nowhere as heart-breaking throwing away uneaten food...

Also, make sure the parents are getting their food early enough. They want to feed their young soon after sunrise, so if they have to wait too long, they may abandon a chick because they think food is in short supply.

Lastly, be prepared to lift the clutch and hand feed them.

Good luck.

Jo

I've tried veggies and fruits and they go untouched..but I still keep trying...

i'm off to finish preparing to feed these precious lit'l ones..
how do you move oe..I'm still feeling very devasted and upset by the loss of this baby chick as my children..Funny I can explain to them it's liekly nothing the parents did and that we couldnt have prob saved him that there was most mikely something wrong..but to tell myself that..sorry just letting words out here..I've already cried a ton and still crying..well, off to put my focus into my children and fids..

I am sorry this happen but I had one pass away in my first clutch last year and this year I had 2 out of 4 pass away, I was so sad that the 2 passed away this year as they were 5 weeks old and I don't know what happen they had some blood in their poop that I found later and it was to late then!! Just make sure the babies are getting fed and if not you will have to learn how to handfeed through a local breeder or avian vet!! I breed my cockatiels and have done it for 2 years and love it but I choose to handfeed all my babies, as you don't have to worry about taming them later and they are already bonded to humans and I have one baby that I kept from last years clutch and he talks, I have heard they will talk alot faster sooner when you handfeed them yourself!! Melissa & 6 cockatiels & 1 pacific parrotlet

I am so sorry for your loss

I lost a baby in my last clutdh it didn't even hatch and I still feel bad about it. I know it must be so devistating after having them a while. I have a hen on eggs now there are 4 fertile ones. They are due to start hatching monday. I have 10 birds all cockateils but 3 and I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to part with the babies. BUT I love raising babies. Best wishes and deepest sympathy to you. Big hugs for you
