Try putting her in your room - it might help. It doesn't sound like she's very happy where she is right now so the change isn't likely to make things much worse. If you're worried about her feeling lonely, try putting a mirror in the cage. I know that sounds like blasphemy to a lot of people, but there are situations where a mirror is beneficial. If it causes behavior problems you can always take it out again.

I put her cage in my room while I was out for a few hours today, and my roommates said she didn't screech or anything. I think that's a good sign... I definitely notice the place is much more loud and active with them here...She must notice it too. When I was baking just now she didn't seem to be very startled by what I was doing, even though I was using measuring cups, opening the oven, etc.

I moved her cage back out to the sitting room since it's just me here and she's only chirped a few times. She sat quietly with me and dozed off.... I'm so glad I'm moving in a week... I'll be moving in with my two best friends who are sensitive, caring people (my friend adopted a bunny who had been a stray) so I'm sure they will be willing to help work with her and help her settle in.

I guess for now I will let her keep sleeping in the sitting room and keep her in my room during the day. I think it'll be much easier to deal with things when I move.

If your cockatiel is in a 'busy' environment he will try to mimic his flock's level of noisiness. There are also certain sounds that he may immediately scream back at. My older brother's voice is one of those sounds. If you put him in an area away from people's chitter chatter during the day he probably will be more quiet. It's all about keeping pace with the rest of the flock and its noises.
