Senior tiel..

Took Sydney to his AV this morning for his check-up.....everythiing is great!

In the waiting room was a lady with a tiel. She said he was 27 years old!! She got him when he was 6 months.
He's has kidney problems and she said she thought she was going to lose him a couple of times..but the AV "performed miracles". He's on a very strict diet..he is now showing signs of cataracts..due to his age and health she's not sure if she wants surgery to correct it or not. She was going to discuss that with the AV.

He is a very "regal" looking tiel...just had a special look about him

The AV told us that despite his health problems he is actually healthy for a tiel that old.

This is the first tiel of that age that we've seen . Sure hope our Sydney makes it there!

I always heard they could live that long, but never had the opportunity to see one. That is amazing and gives hope to us all that our babies may last that long.

Did they say what kind of special diet he is on?

Great to hear your birdy is well.

What a great age 27yr is for a Tiel, to have slight health troubles and still having the will to go forward. Did the vet say how much an op on the eyes would cost?

I have a friend that has a tiel that is 24- so it isn't unheard of that they live that long. Always nice to heard of another living a long time!

No specifics, but he did say that it included pedialyte.
