Fly free (?) Sunny & Scarlet

GAH.
I'm so miffed right now.

I had to take an emergency trip out of town because my dad was in hospital, so I called upon a friend to pet-sit for me while I was away. She happily agreed, of course, and said it wasn't any trouble at all.

Well, I got back today and discovered Sunny and Scarlet missing from the cage. Sienna says they died.
?!!!
Their last vet check was a few days before I randomly had to leave, and they were healthy as ever according to their vet. It's Spring here in Aus and I was going to breed Sunny and Tia again so I took them in for a vet check to ensure they were healthy before I allowed them to breed, so I just got the whole flock checked at the same time.

It wasn't because they fretted for me, either. I was never exceptionally close to Sunny or Scarlet. They'd tolerate me, but they sure as heck wouldn't MISS me. And it was only for a few days - Sunny was too involved in Tia to even notice my absence, and Scarlet was typically a loner anyways.

I've got this strange feeling that sienna took them.
She was always bugging me and asking me if i'd ever breed sunny and scarlet and "give her a cinnamon pearl baby". I always said No, because a) sunny is bonded with tia, and b) you wouldn't GET a cinnamon pearl.

I really didn't WANT her to sit my animals, but she was the only one I could ask at such short noticed.

All I can do is take her word for it, I suppose, and hope to christ that she's looking after them if she DID take them.

(by the way, IF she took them, she wouldn't keep them at her house where I visit often... she'd keep them at her grandma's house, who hates me with a burning firey passion)

Bleh.
:(

OH THAT IS SO SAD!
I would ask her where did she bury them and see if the dirt had actually been dug.

SAD!?? IT'S BIZARRE!

Sounds to me like she took them too. But what kind of person would do that??

I would tell her that you want to visit their "resting place".

Oh my god I'm so sorry! You HAVE to make sure! Go to the grandma's house and peep in or listen carefully for their tiel noises. Sounds very suspicious to me! Did she tell you anything else? Can you give us any more info? Let is know what happens!

Also can I ask where in Aus you are?

Personally, I'd be suspicious too.... what did she do with the bodies?

I guess this isn't the same person as who watched over them previously... but still, something doesn't seem right.

OK If I came home and someone told me my birds died but did not SHOW me my birds and did not offer any idea as to what happened, Id be super suspicious. I cant believe this person actually did this to you! You NEED to find out what happened and you need to get the police involved. This person is lying to you, its pretty obvious. Unless you can see their bodies, call the police and find those babies. That is such BS.

This story is beyond bizarre!

Even if they were buried and as gross as it sounds, I would dig them up just to confirm it. If no birdie bodies, I would be calling the police and asking them to investigate, and search grandma's house. Of course don't tell them, they would just move the birds.

I spoke to her a little earlier this morning and asked her where she buried the bodies. She said she buried them beside the big tree at the very back of my (monstrous) backyard, so when the rain lets up a little i'm gonna go find out.

& Ashling, i'm in Bathurst NSW :)

I'll let you know what I find (if anything).

Yeah, this does NOT sound right in the slightest. I agree with the others; even if it sounds repulsive, I'd have them dug up and have it confirmed both that it is really your honies, and WHAT they died of. How the Hell do two perfectly healthy birds die in such a short space of time, if indeed they have passed on?

If there is nothing in your yard, and you get a spun yard about 'oh, maybe I buried them somewhere else', call bullsh!t on it and start hunting on where she could have taken the 'tiels. If you honestly suspect foul play, either get authorities on it, lay down the law, or keep it to yourself but keep a jackal-keen eye out for powder-down dust marks, feathers, a 'tiel smell or flat-out stories from others and the sounds of your babies going 'Wait, where the Hell am I?'
