hopeful romantic?

Okay so I had to work yesterday & didn't get a change to take the nestbox out of my cage. When I got home, Taz was singing & tapping/hammering the walls from inside the box.

Now, as far as I can tell, Casper doesn't appear to be interested sexually, and from what i've read and from my previous experience with Sunny, a male singing & tapping inside the nestbox is him giving his approval and trying to entice the hen inside?

So my question is, will a male cockatiel sing & tap inside the box, even if he doesn't appear to be getting any "action" from the female? I'm just trying to figure out whether or not there's a chance of eggs from him & casper at some point in their lives.

(Just for the record; casper and taz ARE old enough to breed, I double checked with their breeders for hatch dates)

I didn't know tapping was natural! Peanut and I tap to each other all the time, it's one of his favorite games. In answer to your question, in my situation it is very apparent that they don't need to be getting any "action" from their female counterparts!

I tap with my Blue Crown and my Hahns, as a game, we also whistle. Lorikeets are good tappers. I play tapping games with the ones at the bird store almost every time I go up there.
Just keep an eye on them.

Well, Casper's starting to investigate the inside of the nestbox which I suppose is a good sign. She hasn't gone completely inside yet but she pokes her head in and has a look around. I guess we'll see what happens =P

Looks like Taz's efforts have paid off. I heard some weird noises coming from the cage this afternoon, took a peek outside and saw Casper crouching down low, making odd girly noises and Taz getting ready to mount.

Took him a bit to get himself organized but eventually up he went, and they did their thing :)

Yay!!

They were at it again today so i'm hopeful :D

Although i'm gonna take Tia out and put her in a seperate cage. She's been going into the nestbox a lot and flapping around like a madbird and I don't want it to deter Casper from laying eggs in there.

And the last thing we want is for Tia to lay infertile eggs and/or become a chronic layer =/
