Well.... not so good! Sunlight the Lutino started getting sore eyes a few days after I put wood shavings into the nesting boxes (which were sold by the place I got the birds from) I looked it up and found out that using the wood shavings is a BIG no no especially with Lutinos because they have more respiratory problems and allergies. So I took them out and replaced the two nesting boxes with different things so they could choose. I put vitamins in the water to help in her out but assumed she would improve. But tonight when I got home from work and one eye was swollen and red. Her eye is normal it is the membrane around it that is raised It looks very painful. I plan to do something tomorrow as I have the day off work. The nearest avairian vet is over an hour away. I'm not sure whether salt water baths for her eye might help.
It looks painful :( Any advice?

Take her to the vet, when it's an eye issue so many things can go wrong if you try to treat it yourself.

I took Donut and Sunlight to the vet today.
They suspect that Sunlight may have had an allergy but that some trauma may have happened to her eye or she got something in it which resulted in swollen conjunctiva, he had a good look inside it and found nothing she has to have eye drops twice a day to clear it up.
He consulted an avarian vet and he suggested she be quarantined from my other birds for ten days as she **may** have Chlamydiosis but they don't really think thats what it is, but to be on the safe side quarantine.
As for Donut the vet thinks he is a boy but said he has a birth defect which is-- a defect in one of his eyes and brain damage :( That is why he keeps turning his head to focus on you and then shaking his whole head after, It looks like a tick but it isn't, we found out when holding him still it's his eye it's in a strange angle and his eye tries to change direction to look at you (normally it's his whole head)

I am glad I have him I think I got him for a reason, not just bad luck :)

Poor baby!
But I'm not happy with the people I brought the birds from. Grrrrrr!

I'm glad the eye thing will be cleared up soon! I'm sorry to hear Donut is a special needs bird, but I'm glad you feel the way you do about him. He's lucky to have you. I hope Sunlight gets well soon! Nibbler is adorable, by the way!
