My new "olive" Tiel x

Hi everyone, to cut a long story short i rescued a 10 year yr old male cockatiel on monday evening. He had been put in with a breeding pair of tiels and basically he has hardly any feathers, he has a bold head under his crest, a bold neck and hardly any tail feathers: scared: He is soooo loving. He loves to be on your hand, shoulder, knees and have a good scratch poor luvvy. He is more green than grey and after research i have found he is known to be an "olive" cockatiel, which happens when lots of yellow colouring is washed over the grey giving it a yellow appearance. Quite rare actually. The tips of some of his feathers are almost jet black looking. This is probably why he has been used for breeding, cos he's so unusual and why he's in the state he's in.
On the photo he doesnt look too bad as he's just fluffed himself up after 10 mins of preening lol. He is sooo small and light as well, he hardly weighs anything god love him.
He is now feeding well, mainly out of my open hand as he prefers this to his dishes He has tried pasta and apple and i just wanted to share him with you!!!!. Thanks. ps. I also own a 10 yr old cag named harry who is also a rehome and sooo loved. x

WOW that's a really unusual colour! I've never seen anything like that. His feathers look kinda oily; have you taken him to the vet to have him checked out?

I agree, a vet visit would be prudent, especially since you have not even attempted quarantine. He very well could be sick, and make your other birds sick as well. Bald spots can indicate many things, while the one under his crest could be genetic from poor breeding, his neck may be from something else entirely.

He is beautiful. I have seen "olives" before and always loved them. Is he oily or did you just bath him. I agree on the vet visit.

He's adorable and I think once you get him on some good food and give him a clean active environment....the feathers may straighten out.

You do need to get him to the vet sooner rather than later. It is very important not only for him but your existing bird.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!

well isn't he a sight for sore eyes - what a pretty bird! I LOVE his colors, not something you see a lot. Good for your for rescuing him, he looks to be settling in nicely. He is super adorable.

Am I missing something? I went back and read her post a second time, and couldn't find anywhere in it where she said she didn't do quarantine? Or are we just assuming?
