Which is more loving and interactive- lovebirds or cockatiels?

Which is more loving and interactive- lovebirds or cockatiels? My lovebirds were not with me since birth. And are the birds as far as both are concerned better with you if you get them young or does it matter? It seems to matter to me that you get them when they are young.

Age doesn't matter when you get a bird, however, if you get them individually and work with them daily, they will be more tame. Loving is up to the individual personality of the bird.

it can also be up to the owner... how much time and attention you are willing to give to the bird can have an effect on it, imo.

All my lovebirds were very independent and didnt really want to be cuddly with me or accept scratches. However, they would ride on my shoulder every chance they could get and that was good enough for me. What the above two posters said are the keystones here. 1. It depends on the individual birds personality and 2. It depends how much time and effort you are willing to put into the birds taming/training.

Time spent with the bird and patience from the owner makes a huge difference. Some birds, like my Neko, come around and bond almost immediately. Others, like my Oliver, take more time to trust and get to know their owner and I have to be ready to be patient and let him come to me on his own.

Good luck!

I had a lovebird once... we called it a hatebird. It bit us all the time and screamed at us. Maybe it's just because it didn't have a mate. My cockatiels are much nicer.

It is a complete myth that lovebirds need mates. They are not a very loving bird. In fact, many lovies are known to kill their cagemates, and even their bonded mate.
