How do I get my triton cockatoo to pay attention to fake eggs
My triton cockatoo lays eggs, sometimes 2 or 3 a month. I am doing everything the experts say to help adjust her environment to get her to stop. She had two hormone shots and that stopped her for a while. My only question right now is how do I get her to "sit" on or nest with the fake eggs I bought? They are ceramic and have little holes in the sides so she is trying to chew on them. I have put them on the bottom of her cage where they can't fall through, but do I need to make the egg "area" seem like a nest to see if she will sit on them?
Thanks. |

If she won't make her own nest, you can try to make her a nest area yourself. Either a box or just some papers in the corner of the cage might interest her. Since she didn't lay the eggs herself, you may not be able to get her to think of them as her own because her hormones aren't "in the right place" now. Rubbing those eggs with the scent of the real eggs she had laid might work if you saved some of the real eggs.
Since the hormone shot has stopped her for now, she may not have to have fake eggs unless she starts to lay again. Then you could put the fake eggs in with the real ones and take the real ones out eventually. If she's not showing signs of laying again, it's not a good idea to encourage her, so I'm just assuming you're hoping to use the fake eggs if she lays again.
