In resonse to "when dad's not around"

For some reason, this post is closed and I can't reply to it directly, so I hope you see your answer here.

It may be that when your dad's around, the bird knows he can't get away with being naughty, but when it's just the two of you, he thinks anything goes. I recommend that cockatoos who are prone to biting feet and chasing not be allowed to play on the floor. This prevents this little "game" from ever getting started. It can really get out of hand, as you are seeing now.

The more time you're able to spend with this bird, the better, but it would be a good idea to do some formal training with him so that he learns he's supposed to listen to you just as he listens to your dad. At this point, he may think he's the boss of you, and that's not a good thing for a cockatoo to think.

Some things you can work on, both in the presence of your dad and with just you and the bird: step ups and step downs, and simple activities like dancing, bathing, etc.
