Cage Question

Kim:

I just adopted another M2 (10-years-old) and when I did, the owner gave me his cage too. She was retired and was home all day, so he was out most of the time. I work all day and wish to get him a larger cage. This cage was adequate for her, since he was out most of the time with her. (Please see pic I posted below.) I have always been told that M2's need as large of a cage as you can get, because they are very active and intelligent and need a lot of room to climb and play. She is adament about me keeping him in this cage, because he has had it all his life and it has gone with him to every home he's been. She feels he is attached to it and may become very upset if I switch cages. I feel it is unfair to leave him in this smaller cage while I'm working all day.

With my female M2, she adapted very well to the larger cage and seems to be very content. She too came from a home that had her in a smaller cage.

What is your opinion? Do you think it would traumatize him or upset him?

Teresa:

Get the larger cage. You won't be sorry. Save this for if you decide to board him later. It is very much too small.

Thank you Nancy. I thought so too. He needs a lot more room.

I agree - the cage is way to small for him! Because he was out all day with his previous owner the cage size didn't seem to be an issue. I, too, work full-time out of the house, so try to provide big cages for mine.
When I first got Elwood the previous owner had told me not to take him to the vet to have his nails clipped or his wings clipped because it would give him a heartattack Elwood doesn't like it, but is still with us today.

I'm sorry for the length of time it has taken me to get to this board. We had company, and then as I was trying to get caught up, one thing kept leading to another and this board sort of got pushed into the back of my mind. It had been so long since anyone had posted anything, so wouldn't you know it, someone posts and then I don't check.

Since it did take me too long to answer, I am not surprised that others have answered.

Maybe the moderators know the answer to this: Is there any way for me to be told via email that I have a question waiting? If I know that people are posting I try my best not to make them wait, but after weeks of checking and checking, seeing nothing, and starting to feel "unneeded", I just sort of forgot once I got busy with my guests.

I know it's not anyone's job to keep me on my toes, but if a question goes more than a couple of days without me responding, it probably means I've gotten bogged down with stuff again and could use a nudge to get back in here. Normally I don't log in on weekends, so if something is added on Friday, I may not see it until Monday, though.

Thanks! I normally do try to be more professional about things!
