dysfunctional bird family - consultant in DC?

Does anyone know of a bird behavioral consultant in the Washington DC area? I'm having a few problems with my BF Amazon and her sudden intense hatred of my boyfriend. Considering she's HIS bird (for 10 years), this sudden change has caused a little tension, especially since she now LOVES me.

As nice as he is to her, she just won't let him anywhere near her. It's odd, as she doesn't even behave that way to total strangers. I'm guessing she's bonded to me, and sees him as a rival, but that's just my guess. I'm careful about projecting human motives onto birds, but in this case it really seems to make sense.

Anyway, anyone else been in this situation? It's a pain in the neck being the only one who can handle her, as much as I've grown to just adore her.

Let's see if Kim Bear can help you. I'll cross post to the cockatoo expert. She is a behaviorist for parrots.

Parrots will sometimes do a 180 as to which person they prefer, and it can be hard to pinpoint why they make the decisions they do. Even if you never understand why your bird feels this way, you can make things manageable again for everyone. I do phone consults and have never had anyone tell me that they weren't satisfied with the results they've gotten. As long as a person is willing to be honest about what's happening, can adequately describe the environment, routine, etc., and is able (and willing) to follow the plan we come up with, some amount of success is sure to occur. And I've been told that my reasonable fee makes the possibility of multiple sessions more acceptable to people who might not otherwise be able to afford continued support.

You can call if you'd like and we can discuss whether or not a phone consult is right for you. The number is 850-683-9696.

That would be wonderful. I've been thinking I need "professional" help for a while before this gets too far out of hand.

I will call and we can set something up.
