Question Need Advice On Breeder Bird As A Pet

I Have Found A Moluccan Cockatoo A Lady Had Bought To Try And Breed And Was Unsucessful. She Has Not Had Him Set Up For About 9 Months Now And Is Wanting To Sell Him. I Would Love To Have Him As A Pet But I Would Like Advise On Weither Or Not I Would Be Able To Tame Him. His Name Is Sammy And She Said She Talks To Him If She Is In The Room With Him And He Seems To Know Her But She Has Not Tried To Handle Him At All. I Feel Realy Sorry For The Baby And Would Love To Give Him A Wonderful Home But I Don't Know If I May Be Bitting Off More Than I Can Chew. If Anyone Could Give Me Any Advice It Would Mean Alot. Thanks Tracy

RUN Run away as fast as you can. If she is giving up after only nine months. Something might be wrong w/ the bird that she is not telling you about. PLUS if you don't have any TOO experience. You do not want to start w/ a M2.

Mike

I don't agree to run away,it sounds as if she wanted a "breeder" bird and he's not a breeder,my opinion is do your home work, ask tons of ?'s go see him,not with the idea of taking him right away, but see if you bond,if he's what you want and can handle,it's hard but you can't adopt based only on feeling sorry for him, otherwise he might need to be rehomed again and again,I have 54 and have not taken some that were offered,I always feel for them, but sometimes I am NOT the best option for them best of luck to both!

I totally agree with Mike. This is no bird for a novice. M2s are difficult enough to live with.

Thanks For The Advice, I Think I May Go And See "sammy" And See How Aggressive He Is And If I Can Close To Him At All.

I'm sorry to not get back to you sooner. This board has been rather inactive lately and I have gotten out of the habit of checking on a daily basis, then I went out of town and wasn't available but forgot to mention it to everyone.

Anyway....If you have met this bird and still have questions, please post what you've found. A Moluccan cockatoo that's been moved around a bit is probably not a good choice unless you're a really experienced cockatoo person, but in this business, I've learned to "never say never".
