Question About Umbrella and Seed

Hi all, my wife and I got a beautiful Umbrella Cockatoo last year. Her name is Tiki and she's barely a year old. Very playful and affectionate. My question is how do we get her off seeds? She will eat fresh fruits and vegetables when we have them available but not the pellets we provide for her. We also tried using Golden Feast which is really good but she turns her "nose" up to it. I dont want to give in to her by giving her the seeds but at the same time I dont want her to starve. Am I wrong to think that if she gets hungry enough she will eat whats there or will she starve herself? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Kerry

Hi Kerry! Tiki is a beautiful girl!!!
Be careful because Too's will starve themselves. Here is what I do to get my U2 to eat her pellets..... I grind them up into powder and mix a bit with warm water, then I spoon feed her. She won't eat them any other way.

Ya just gotta be creative. LOL

Powder is fine. I grind them up in a blender. I usually do a lot of it, then put the powder in a container. It has the consistancy of cornmeal. My bird won't eat them unless they are wet and warm. Yup, she is spoiled. ;o)

No wonder Maxie says, "Waah!" When you leave the room. What a brat. You know I'm just kidding.

Have you tried Dog food? I can't get Bobbie to eat pellets..although I like the ground up idea. I will try that for his breakfast on the days I don't have oatmeal.

Is there anything bad in dog food? Bobbie insists on eating 2-3 bits every day (after he dumps it out the dish looking for seed )

I don't know about dog food. Maxie loves any type of meat though. She especially LOVES the fat on a steak. I am sure that is not very good for her, but I let her eat a little bit sometimes.

I am glad to hear Maxie likes steak. Gus, my U2 loves pork chops and ribs.

Ya know, as much as U2's LOVE meat. I wonder how much meat they eat in the wild. I have been told meat is good for them in moderation. I figure, as long as they are eating a variety of foods, they will be ok.
