HELP! self mutilating moluccan cockatoo

hello my name is mark and i live in michigan, i have over 40 birds that i adore each and everyone , i recently adopted 3 more this past weekend one is a goffin cockatoo (feather picking) and a moluccan cockatoo whom got lead poisoning three years ago and was nursed to decent health by a lady friend of mine whom she rescued from the lady whom allowed the bird to eat a lead painted window sill
with his new environment he seems to be doing well i want to do holistic measures and was wondering what is the best things to use i have heard of palm oil , pro back adult, system-a-juv, and terre cleanse
he has good size soar on his chest i have managed to get him to leave it alone for 3 days keeping him busy and entertained but need help oh and i have heard of bird calm
has anyone experienced this type of problem and if so what did you do please any help would be greatly appreciated my email is mrayner@cablespeed.com thank you and have a chirpy great day!

40 birds? That is more birds than live in my yard?

Off the subject, by why so many? I ask and have 8. So I am not trying to be rude or crude, I just wonder what gets into people like myself (and you) to pretty much offer our lives to the care and feeding of these special creatures.

If I had it to do again, I think I would have gone for a smaller bird, like a pair of canary's. lol

^hehe maybe 30 are pigeons and doves? idk
I'm still in awe over how YOU would keep 8 large parrots. It's all beyond me.
Doesn't anyone work?! *laughs*

And the noise, they must all be in the same room, I'm sure that would be a crazy volume to adjust to!

I'm sorry I don't have any advice to offer. I wish you luck with your birds, though! I hope that everything works out.

Our 10 are just as loud as 1 or 2. They have their fun, but mainly everyone that visits can not believe that 10 parrots live here. We keep them busy and content, not a bored bird in the bunch!

^cool! I hope to do the same if/when the M2 arrives here.
bored bird = destructive, loud, unhappy.

Today I saw my avian vet for my feather picking Goffin. She has recommended I put Chaucer on AVIx Sunshine Factor and AVIx Soother Spray. She says their good products. Chaucer was wearing a e-collar and hated it....chewed through one in 3 weeks. He was fitted with a hard clear plastic bubble collar today....so far he seems to be in a much better mood wearing it than that bit e-collar. It doesn't inhibit his movement as much as the other type collar. She has also recommended .02 of children's binadryl every 8 hours or so for the itching.....besides new picked feather coming in, he's also molting. for the AVIx products, you can go to exoticdvm.com and check out what they have. The products are carried in many city/states....but not mine.

If there is an open wound, I would be very careful. An infection can occur without you being aware of it and can travel throughout the body.
