Unhappy Pet Store Bird

I went into a pet store today to see there bird toy selection and I noticed they had some parrots (most pet stores dont around here) so I walked by and looked at them. The crew was taking them out and playing with them and telling lies about there temperments(an african grey by nature bonds to 5 or 6 people and is a amazing family pet, only rare ceses it bonds to one person THEY SAY). So I corrected them bird by bird then coming to the last bird they didnt even bother to talk about.

Now this is a breath taking bird. Major Mitchells. I asked they why they didnt take him out and play with him, they replied "he is a bad bird and he attacks evrything in sight and we dont plan on selling him anyways so he can just sit there".

I was sooooo angry! How dare they keep a bird like that cooped up in a cage with no toys just a perch swing seed mix and the cage is way to small. The crew said the only good part was its head and to get it up they had to scare it. By this point I was mad but that just set me off. I walked over and picked the biggest toy its cage could it and I walked over and saw they had a pad loock I somehow missed so I couldnt put the toy in. So I just sat with it for a bit and examined it it looked angry I think they abused it or something and people would come over and try to scare it and I told them to get away or the bird will shoot poo at them. I feel so bad for it, Next time I go back i'm going to ask to see it out of the cage and put some toys in the cage. I wish I had to money for it but its way overpriced even for a mtchells at 10 grand. Most I could do is 3 grand at the most. I will take pictures next time I am there which should be next weekend or evern tomorrow.

Is this a chain pet store or privatly owned? Either way they should be reported to someone. Thier corporate office, the owner, ASPCA, Animal Control....someone. If there is a parrot/bird sanctuary/rescue near you, give them a call. They can usually put on pressure if an animal in a store is being abused.

Thanx for caring.

That's disgusting. Definitely report them. That poor bird deserves better.
Major Mitchells are beautiful birds, but there are too many idiots who think that's all they are and treat them as an ornament rather than a living creature.
Please, do help the poor dear. It's heartbreaking imagining it tortured like that.

Major Mitchells are stunning birds... It's strange, here where I live I've seen them sold for $400... I can't imagine spending $10k on one.
I think it was great idea to buy the little guy some toys, and really they have no reason to refuse you that. If people saw how happy the bird could be they'd be much more inclined to purchase it. Treating it poorly benefits no one!
Hope the macaw gets the treatment it deserves too. Kudos on keeping an eye out for our feathered friends' interests!
