Adopted a plucking Umbrella Too
Soo Soo Sad, I have read such sad reports about all birds and more about the too's. Yesterday we just adopted one that has started with plucking problems. She was in a cage a bit small for her with NO TOYS at all.
She is the sweetest thing too, she loves to cuddle and snuggle and be petted, last night we put her on a play stand and she kinda just stood there like a statue not knowing what to do and she pulled one feather, today None. My husband gave her a shower last nite, poor thing probable never had a shower in her life and she is 7, I put her in a towel and she chewed several holes in the towel while I was cuddling her and keeping her warm. This morning she looked and felt so much better. Today she really came out of her shell checking out the entire play stand and even went to the bottom and shreaded up the news paper and picked up some wooden beads. Then we let her check out the other "flock's cages" while they were on play stands and caught her playing with a toy here and there. She was very curious about everything. Last night when we pressure washed her cage, there was something soo greasy on it that some of the parts slipped right out of my husbands hands, thats how slippery they were, thats another reason for the shower on the first night. It was like an oil spill in her cage and it made us wonder if that was on her, because she felt terrible to the touch. She looked and felt better to us today, so I am thinking she must have felt better with all that gunk off her, she is in need of a few more showers, but dont want to stress her all at one time. I got some baby shampoo for when the next shower comes. We did a bunch of cage rearanging today, she got Jack and Jill's cage and they got her cage. Jack and Jill's cage is much much larger than hers, and I think her cage will be large enough for them. Plus none of our birds spend much time IN there cages during the day, they are always out on playstands and such with us. I only put about 4 toys in her cage today and most of them were very plain, uncolorful ones , some stuffed with peanuts (she likes peanuts) and shreader toys, I didnt want to overcome her with toys since she came with no toys and the owners told me she is afraid of toys (which I don't believe or one minute) she is not used to them because she didnt have any, but she has the interest and I will add more every day and then start to change them for different ones. We also put a large natural tree branch or two, really thick pieces that we had left from our Amazon's cage in there. I will take some pic's of her new home soon. All in All I think she is adapting very well for only one day. Here's the pic's so far, of her cage when we got it with NOTHING IN IT and her, we didnt take any pictures of her before her shower, wished we did, but it is shower last nite and one of today, spent most of today day getting her situated. Other than love, attention and lots of toys ... any suggestions are appreciated, tomorrow is "Doctor day", she gets to go get inspected, prodded and poked. Poor Baby...
