The breeder I was talking to that has the galahs, was telling me that in Australia they at one point were very abundant and they were destroying crops so they were allowed to be shot. How sad.
Wow, the prices there are something huh? So many I guess is the reason? The MM2s I've seen for sale on the internet here are 7-8,000! I almost fell outta my chair when I saw an advertisment for some kind of black 2s that were priced at $25,000!! too steep for me lol

Ok, so I'm thinking....someone just needs to commit me, before I lose it anymore than I have. I just got another B&G that needed a home. the poor guy is such a sweetie. Of course he seems to prefer my hubby, but doesn't lunge at me, just gives a little squeek when I try to touch him, although he does step up on me without a problem. I think I'm losing it, my children think I've already lost it. Oh well. I'm a sucker for birdies what can I say?

My too is doing wonderful by the way! I'm very impressed with the amount of progress with him. Hubby can now get about a foot away from the cage before he starts hissing loudly! lol That is a big improvement!

update on Grumpy...

Well, I feel like we've made some progress, but it's been slow lol. He's actually doing quite well I think. He's stopped the hissing as much as he did. He was doing it everytime someone came in the room he's in, now he doesn't. I don't think he likes little kids though. My two yr old grandson was here and didn't even notice Grumpy, but Grumpy noticed him. He didn't hiss, however he screamed horribly. Terrified by grandson to the point of tears as he took off running. He did that to my poor grandson several times, but not every time he came in the room. Scared him so bad the first time, his pants were "warm". lol
I open up the front top door of his cage and he either hops up or climbs right up there, and is anxious and happy to be out. I haven't gotten to handle him yet but he has let me touch his back a few times, but then will lunge at me. Sometimes when he is making the clicking noise at me, he turns his head this way or that way or upside down doing it, and sometimes he makes a noise like he is taking a big breath? (sounds like when you take a big sniff through your nose?) then back to clicking. He loves being out on his cage and he has chewed up some of his toys. In the beginning when I would offer him food with my fingers, he would grab it hard and toss it, he doesn't do that anymore. I'm still introducing different foods to him, which he is interested in. I guess he knows by now if I'm handing him something, it's probably good and something to eat!
He will come out on the door (the smaller top door lays out) and come over to the edge making his clicking noise and gets closer and closer. A couple times he has leaped for my clothes. Today I put a sweat jacket on and put my arm up there and told him to step up, he lifted his foot like he was going to (and I was thinking great, now what will I do lol) I didn't pull back or say anything but step up. He held on to my arm and started pulling it towards his mouth lol. After that a couple times he came at the sleeve very slowly then quickly grabbed the sleeve of the jacket, and pulled it but he didn't bite it hard enough to tear it. Still not talking, haven't heard him actually say anything since that first time or two, but he was whistling very softly the other day for a couple minutes. When he's out on the door, he'll look at me all lovey dovey and inch his way closer and closer, then he'll stop and very quickly lunge at me, but it's like a short lunge, like he's seeing if he can scare me or make me holler. He'll do that several times in a row playful like. No bites yet (knock on wood) but I don't get my fingers too close very often. I'd rather be bitten elsewhere than the fingers and I know it's gonna happen, almost wish he would hurry up and get it over with lol. All in all I think we are doing ok, and I am happy with the progress we have made, compared to how the other lady said he acted with her for the 6 mo. prior to me buying him and the way he acted in the beginning when I brought him home.
The very tops underneath all along the top, is still plucked, but I don't see any feathers in the cage? At least he isn't plucking anything else. Just looks funny when he puts his wings up trying to look scary. He smacked me a couple times today with his wing while I was trying to work with him a little.
Anyway, just wanted to update, even though we haven't really probably gotten very far? It feels like it. I hope he eventually lets me hold him, I keep fighting the urge to find a baby 'too to bring home lol.
Does anyone here have a greater sulfur crested? Can't seem to find too many that have them? Maybe they aren't as friendly as the others or something. Anyway, I love him and am sooo glad I brought him home.

You really seem to be making nice progress with him. Years ago I had two cockatiels (I know, I know, hardly the same). They loved to hiss at me. The one would let me pet his head but after a few minutes he would pull back and hiss. I think he wanted to make sure I knew he was the boss. He never did bite but acted like he would to keep me on my guard. This never changed in all the years I owned him.

lol...great. Well, he's stopped hissing at me, so I will take that as a big accomplishment then. Grumpy is still definately "the boss", as is evident because I cannot get him to step up on a stick yet. I really want to get him to a play stand or the t stand, but can't figure out how to get that accomplished yet. That's what I don't get about the training tape I watched, they already have the bird ON the stand so they can work with it. I need to know how to get him FROM the cage TO the stand lol I think we would make better progress from the stand.

ok, I'm done, really....seriously this is it, it has to be as I am running out of room. At 2:30 this afternoon I will be adopted by a medium sulfur crested 'Too that is 13 and very cuddly. I tried to pass it up, I reaaally did. I called hubby and he ASKED me if I was crazy, instead of TELLING me I am and saying "NO!".
He knows how to do the "NO!" firmly with my babies, he just can't seem to get it down with me yet. So, he said ok, but that's it. He told me to tell the lady to lose my number though lmao. She is who I've gotten the GSC2, and the second B&G from. She has called at least a couple times a week with one's that need a home. I have done very well until this one. I have said no on my own, but for some reason it just wouldn't come out of my mouth....I tried. :)
I am going to have me a t shirt made that says "JUST SAY NO!", so I can wear it when I know I don't need what I am wanting and maybe it will train hubby to say it?? lol
