Umbrella Cockatoo Aviary
OK - so one day I would like to build a very large outdoor aviary - (appropriately sheltered and plans for cold or hot weather etc... I would like to adopt several umbrella cockatoos from rescues and give them a wonderful, permanent home. (I hope to be a park ranger once I graduate college, so I will be living in a rural area, I only plan to do this if that pans out and I am settled in a rural area with land and the ability to do this).
However, I have a lot of questions and doubts.
1. There is always a danger of birds attacking one another. Would it be ok to house 2 umbrella cockatoos together in a large aviary (after proper quarantine and introductions etc)? The birds I would adopt would obviously have emotional problems. Should I even consider doing this at all?
2. I dont want any cockatoo babies. Can two umbrella cockatoos of the same sex get along?
3. If I build a properly sized aviary, could more than two umbrella cockatoos, (that have been properly introduced), plausibly live together in an aviary?
Basically, I would want to have several umbrella cockatoos living in a large "sanctuary." I just want to know if this is possible, and whether birds of the same gender can coexist, or if I would have to keep one male and one female together.
