Unhappy Need to Rehome my Lesser Sulphur Crested Too

I am heartbroken to have to do this but I need to rehome our beautiful Lesser Sulphur Crested Cockatoo named Niblet. She is approximately 5 years old. I believe she is female based on eye color, but she has not been sexed. I have been told that the lesser sulphur cresteds are harder to find so I consider Niblet a rare jewel. Once you meet her you will be in love with her too. I hate to have to let her go.

My husband and I have asthma and have several other parrots that do not affect us, but we are both now affected by her dust and sadly we need to let her go. She loves being really close to me and having one on one attention and unfortunately it's at those times that she affects me the most. It's bad enough that even using my rescue inhaler doesn't help.

We actually on took Niblet into our home about a month ago. I rescued her from a home where there were actually ants crawling in and on the cage and the home she was in was in horrible condition. She had only two small toys in the cage and the cage was rusted in some spots and in just really bad condition. She was an incredibly sweet bird when I met her (she came right to me and I feel like she bonded right to me that night) and when I saw the condition of the cage she was in, I couldn't even leave her there another night. I took her home with me that night and gave her a big cage with lots of toys and fresh food and she is doing wonderful. Everything is great except that after a month around the dust, I am having a terrible time breathing when I have her with me. I have tried bathing her often, but it seems like no matter how much dander we wash off her, there is still enough there that I'm having a reaction. :(

I am asking a rehoming fee for her because I want to make sure she goes to a good and loving home and also to someone that can afford the kind of care that a big bird like her will need. Whomever takes her will also get the large cage and all of her toys. She is extremely loving and is definitely a "people" bird. LIke all cockatoos, she loves attention but is also able to play on her own in her cage. She is in perfect feather and is a beautiful white with yellow throughout. She loves dried bananas, pasta, mangos and other fruits and veggies. I even just bought a dehydrator to make her fresh homemade dried fruit. This is really upsetting me that she can't stay.

If anyone is interested, please let me know. I live in Southern Maryland.

Here are some photos of her. Isn't she gorgeous?

What a hard decision you have had to make. As an allergy sufferer I lived in fear each time I took a bird in. I'm sure you tried a good air cleaner. At least you know you got her out of a bad situation, showed her that we humans aren't so bad, and now can make sure she goes to a good and loving home. Good luck and know there are many of us who are grateful you have done as much for her as you have done.

Thanks so much for your kind replies. One of our birdboard members that happens to live in Maryland about an hour from me contacted me last night and is going to come and visit with Niblet today. She sounds like she will be a great match for Niblet. Keep your fingers crossed for us! :)

I am extremely happy to say that Niblet went home with her new Mom, Lisa, one of the Birdboard moderators, this evening. They are a perfect match and I know that Niblet will be happy, safe and well loved in her new home. :)
