Moluccan vs Umbrella

Hello,

Recently a Moluccan cockatoo has come up for adoption in my area.

I have always wanted a U2 (I had to wait for the right time), but the first time I saw a M2 I fell in love as well. Not knowing much about M2 a friend told me....nope U2 is the way to go. I cant remember what she said about the M2.

Ok, so now this M2 is available. Can anyone tell me the pro's and cons of a M2 opposed to a U2?

I know this M2 is 16 years old, I think it is a female becuase of its name. I have yet to find out if it was DNA'd, etc. She is not a plucker and the only bad habit the owner says she has is she is starting to throw seed from her dish when she is wanting attention. The owners are placing her for adoption becuase they recently retired and travel alot. Their children come in to feed their birds, but the M2 is having a hard time adjusting to the changes. The other birds are not.

Do you think she will bond to me and my family, since she has been with her family so long?

Thank you for all your time and assistance.

Colleen

Where are you located? Have you ever owned a "large bird"? Donding denpends on a lot of issues. The bird, you, the family. Are you willing to do what it takes? The is soo much work that goes into a cockatoo.
Cockatoo's should NEVER be on seed. They need pellets. Alos I can't believe that they leave them alone with the kids coming in to feed them 1 time a day. Do they ever get any out of cage time? Too's should be out of their no less than 3 hours a day.

That is soo sad. I feel terrible. Too's that have no time out of cage, or new toys, healthy diet of fresh veggies, fruite, etc and human contact time will become VERY depressed and pluck, mutilate etc. Let me know. I won a Moluccan/umbrella hybrid mx too!

The difference between a Moluccan vs Umbrella is their size.A Moluccan is much bigger and their scream is much loader.I was owned by both
at one time and the Moluccan was very needy to the point I couldn't leave my house she would actually throw tantrums.Though she was very cuddly. We just now took in an Umbrella but he's only been with us a few days.He is not like any other Umbrella I have ever met.He makes pigs noises instead of the normal Umbrella noises.I'm waiting for his true self to come out.
The Umbrellas that I used to own their scream was nothing as loud as the Moluccan. The Moluccan could move walls the way she screamed. It was a good thing I had understandable neighbors.

So I take it you are owned by an Umbrella or some kind of Too? They are like no other parrot and they leave a lasting impression on you. What I didn't mention was when I did own the Toos it was the M2,2-U2's and 2-G2's and a bunch of others. Those Toos were a life changing experience in more ways than one.Now look at me and my flock!

I am sooo hooked on Toos! Of course my Ellie is the prettiest of them all even if she is a feather mutilator! (her first owner litterally beat the crap out of her with sticks and shoes). Besides the feather plucking and mutilating you would never tell she is the SWEETEST baby ever!

She is a hybrid Moluccan/umbrella Cockatoo. You can barely see the pink in her , but there is deffinetly pink on her shoulders.

I have a B&G and I love him tp pieces also, but Ellie holds a very special anad dear spot in my heart cause she has had a very terrible 10 years (before me of course) yet she is such a happy thing!

She no longer plucks her chest but she damaged the folicles so they will never grow back.

I would take a too any day! That is why I wast rying to help the Moluccan from craigslist!

Here she is!

My thing is I have no business having any Toos or Tiels because the last time I tried this my asthma flared up so bad and breathing was a problem.I'm hoping that this one won't have the same effect. My husband Elliott who I call Ellie does most of the care of him.It makes me laugh when you call your Ellie.I'm sure my husband will get a kick out of it.Whoever abused that bird in such a way or any defenseless animal will eventually get there's one day.I have so many animals in my care that have been through some sort of abuse.Buzz my first B&G Macaw was 10 years old when she came to me plucked and was kept in a cage loaded with her feces and if she dare protest they would scream profanities at her.She was so happy to be brought to me that she literally jumped out of the cardboard box into my arms
There was no way I would leave her with them. It's 4 years later and she's better she used to scream all the time but that has improved. The plucking is habitual probably from the 10 years of being with that family and all the abuse.Sometimes I don't understand why people bother getting animals if they're not going to take care of them.

That is my Ellie. The vet said she will never stop her mutilatuing. In my pictures you cans see what she does to her wings. She can't fly or even float for a soft landing.

Awwww poor birdie! Too's can be a real pain to your ears, but they are so adorable. Sunshine has calmed down a lot since she knows when Mommie gets home, no matter what time, she gets to come out and get some loving. (Sometimes I have to work late)

The other night after dinner I went to the other side of my house by the pool, it has been so hot here I didn't bother to take her out, but when I walked back in she let me know she was not to happy mommie left her in the cool A/C house. So we had our "play time" here in the cool A/C and she was just fine. She has me trained pretty well, but I know she HAS to come out for a little while even if mommie gets home late. Joe bird as well.

I have herd Cockatoo's seem to adjust to new owners quickly, but who reallys knows unless we could actually understand them. If you are providing a much better enviroment, that too will adjust. Too bad we could't take a Rosetta Stone language course on speaking and understanding the language of Too's! LOL

Not exactly. I am Ellie's 5th home and she will be 11 next month. It took her 4 months before I could even touch her! Now she walks around the house looking for me and the cats (she HATES cats). Once she finds me she acts as if All is well in the world now that she found mommy!

I love the swing on your photo bucket! Make me one? LOL

Here is their tree prch I made!
