New Goffin

I just bought a new Goffin. She is 5 years old. A little about her she was owned by a lady who had him for # of years. took her to a pet store for ? months. They sold it to a Guy who had it for 3 months. I bought it and both people said thier son had allergies to it.

I have had it for 4 days
here is what i notice. She seems relaxed she has rested on one foot with grinding of her beak. she runs all over her cage. I have had her dancing a couple of times. she does some wierd stuff . HAHA She seems like a goodbird. Doesn't scream makes a few noises. She hides food in her feather and tries to find it. She scratches her head after she puts a pellet on her head then she gets the pellat after she is done.

She has put her foot out to step up and then she bite hard.I don't know why?
Is it ok to play catch with her. She likes me to throw a rag and she will catch it and throw it back, some what.she some times will tug on it like a dog.
this souldn't make her violent would it?

She likes to be scratched. Were can i scratch her just on the head and neck what about under the wings she will lift them with her foot. goofy bird.

Anyway she seems like a well balanced bird any tips to keep her this way would be great. She has bite me a couple of times but i assume it is from the moving and the season.

Also what are some good toys for her or a place to order them online
thanks
Adam

thanks Adam

There is a great thread here on where to get toys:
Good place to buy supplies to make your own toys?

Goffins need LOTS of toys. I mean LOTS. Lots of wood to chew on too.

Catch and tug should be ok... but try and buy one of those rope tug toys for dogs to play with, like these:

Personally, I like this one I just found:
Clean Run: Chuckit Tennis Player Dog Toy

Too cute! If you just use a towel or gods forbid your clothes... don't be surprised when she thinks it is ok to tear those things up or grab onto your sleeve!

I will stay out of the scritching debate. As long as she is not getting sexually excited and violent... I say scritch away!

Ya i hear you. I don't like forums. It is hard to tell the truth from the bs what works for one person might not for another. Everyone seems to have thier own opinion. Everyone has a diff bird. Some birds like this ,some like that. I have only had a couple but have read alot. I will am going to give liz Wilson a call just to get some guidelines to follow. thanks for the website

Best of luck to you! You made a great choice, in my opinion. Our Goffin's is a joy (90% of the time, anyway). He's a goof, a clown, and oh so smart. He turns up his beak at a $35.00 toy but can keep himself entertained for an hour with a plastic drinking straw or a strip of leather. :) You have many fun times ahead of you!!!

this is so cool! she just talked she said hello and something else. I have had her for 1 week. the previous owner had her for 3 months and she never did. They said "they were told she could talk" from the pet store. She probaly hasn't talked since the first owners well over a year ago. The funny thing is that we saw her in the pet store a year ago but couldn't buy her at the time because we lived in a apartment. what a coincidence to end up with her a year later from a private owner. I am just glad they got rid of her before she had problems. I am going to try my hardest keep her happy and content
