A new 2 and two sun conures??
Hi guys,
I replied to a classified ad today and well.. my black t-shirt is covered in umbrella cockatoo powder! I had to go check her out. Now I'm weighing the pros & cons of owning a cockatoo again. I currently have 2 sun conures, 2 tiels, and 2 human kids (ages 4 n 6). The too seemed to get along with them fine, since the house she is coming from has a 6 yr old boy, who she is friendly with. Her current home also has a very jealous B&G macaw. Should I expect her to interact with the suns? or will the little yellow piranhas be all militant? And before ya'll reply with the usuals... yes, i have a big enough house to keep them apart for quarentine... yes, i have owned a u2 before... no, it was 15 years ago, before college, kids, etc... yes, i have a vet.. I'm just seriously pondering.. cuz those big white fluffy birds are still my favorite. Last edited by Markus; 08-05-2008 at 03:45 AM. Reason: cuz it sounds like i got a new bird already, but i didnt. |

so, since you're so honest, i'll return the favor - it sounds to me like you know quite well, what you're getting yourself into. if you've owned a u2 before, you know how much time, attention, and cleaning they require. oh, and that they require time so, correct me if i'm wrong - but sounds to me that you're just not quite sure at the moment if all of that is feasible (i feel like that i sound like i've pondered similar issues before ). and for that i don't have an answer nor advice.think it through, check your routines and see if the 2 would fit in without anybody / anybirdie suffering too little attention. if you think you can make it work, go for it.... (and nobody will be able to tell you if the birds will get along, if the suns are used to running the house, you might have to start with separate time-outs of the cage to avoid harm)

Yeah... the hardest part is telling myself "NO!" As much as I'd love to bring her home, I'm not going to do it. Time is the biggest factor. I don't have enough time at home to spend with her. The suns definitely rule the house. Even the cat is afraid of them!!
I'm on summer vacation from college. So while I have time in the next three weeks, I won't once school starts for me, my daughter, and pre-k for my son. *shakes head* Thank you for the reply |

oh, i'm sorry.... but i can totally understand you - i've been there before multiple times, when i think "oh yeah, i'll bring that baby home" then i think about it hard and realize that i don't have the time nor the space
maybe the next time (hugs)

I'll just cover my sun conures in flour and tape some feathers to their heads!!! That'll work!!
Haha, even funnier you said "bring that baby home" because her name is Baby. She even said her name, too. Maybe after the kids leave.. my youngest is going into PRE-K this year! |
