getting goffins too today help!!

okay so i found this goffins too on cl today and they got him/her as a adoption/save kinda deal and now they cant spend enough time with him/her and now they are selling her/him to me, my ?'s are they said he/she is a plucker and plucks when she is not around people and dont get enough time with people, is there any other thing(s) that could be causing her/him to pluck? how can i get him/her to stop (i know spend 24/7 with him/her) but anything else? please anything will help i have never dealt with a plucker!!!! Is s/he kept in the same room as your Zons? If not that might help or make it worse. Another thing I have read is to kepp the cage in a busy room of the house. If you can't give direct attention it will allow for ambiant attention. You may have to get a cage for her/him in your room so s/he can sleep in the same room as you if you are that dedicated to getting her/him to stop. I would look for another reason for the plucking. Have you gotten a VET check done to see if it's a skin irritation or some other madical reason? That may be it.
There are so many reasons why thins could be happening. I myself have never had to deal with this (knock on wood) so I can't give you anything from my experiences. I have read about it and alot of it is emotional and takes alot of time and dedication to fix. If you are prepared and willing you should be able to stop the plucking.

okay heres the story!! sorry so long!!!! okay the people i got her from got her from a woman that had a whole bunch of little birds, the story they got was that sherry (my too) bit the head off one of the smaller birds???? dont know what to think of this cuz she has not even looked at me like she wanted to bite me! (but have only had her for a few hours now) so im kinda scared to put her anywhere near the other birds as they are mean and i know they are mean and i would hate for one of them to get hurt. plus i put her in the room that im in most of the time so that she can be with me at all times, but the people that i got her from said that they almost had all her feathers back and then the lady had to move and started working more and didnt spend enough time with her, and they said that it was not fair to sharry so thats why they are rehoming her!! but i will do whatever it takes to get her to feel and look better! i think she has done really good with the move she is already dancing,talking,playing,ect.... and i know that my other 2 birds took a long time to warm up to me (bought shooter in feb this year and he has said hello one time)!!!! any ideas help on what to do with her!

I applaud you for your willingness to do what it takes and as previously posted it will. You have a long road ahead but don't get discouraged. You may never be able to get her to stop plucking completely but with alot of love and care she can be a happy healthy bird. I would say no matter what a vet check is in order. What kind of diet is she on? Thee are many factors involved in plucking and once you rule out any health problems you can go from there.

I agree VET check is very important. I have a U2 as well as a G2 and the u2 was a bored plucker. He doesnt pluck anymore. the g2 was starting to pluck(the owners said they thought she was wanting to be a breeder.........grrrr) she hasnt plucked either since she has been home. They are both in the busiest place in our home and they have tons and tons of chew toys. They need lots of things to keep them occuppied. Mine are both very picky eaters so it is hard from that point, but they are both doing so well (I must be doing something right....lol) SO I guess I wanted to say give them lots of toys and lots of attention..............n gl

they have her on some kind of seed diet it looks really small for cockatoos tho maybe for smaller birds i dont know i know the seeds they sell for my amazons are alot bigger then the seeds then shes eating! but i understand that all birds a different and that she is smaller then my zons. so im going to the store as soon as my boyfriend can take over watchin her and do some looking and see what they really have her on, but im also going to convert her over to pellet as soon as possible but i'm trying to get her settled in first i don't want to get her to upset and her really start plucking and start bleeding or anything! so im just trying to take things one step at a time! but she gets attention non stop from the time i wake up to the time i go to bed unless she flys to her cage and then i figure she dont want to be messed with! she is the most loving bird i feel so bad for her, would a vet help or should i just try these things first??

I recomend a vet check just to make sure. They might be able to see something you don't and recomend a remedy that we cannot. Although from what you have posted it does sound like behavioural (sp?) problem. Something she was rewarded for unknowingly by a previous owner. It happens all the time and we don't even realise that we are doing it.
So far it seems you are doing the right things. Taking it slow at her pace and trying to make it a comfortable transition. I still say avet check is the right thing to do.
It's better to get one and find out you didn't have to than it is to not get one and find out that you should have.

im sorry i meant to say vest not vet im going to get her to a vet as soon as i can, also im posting another post about her and not using her feet to hold things or playing with toys please read that one to if you have any ideas!
