normal for a too or no???
so i got this plucking goffins too yesterday i have no clue about too's as i have 2 zons and have had some smaller birds in the past but this too is really weird compaired to my zons (yes i know that each breed is diff but) my zons use their feet to grab treats, foods, toys, and to step up this bird does none of these things!!! if there is something she is eating that she likes (bananas seems to be her fav so far) it has to be in her food bowl or i have to hold it or it will fall, and then i know that everyone says to wipe boredom out so that if thats why shes plucking then i will know!! so i went and got her all kinds of toys to play with today!! when i put them in there she acted like she had no idea what they were and what they were for and now im thinking that this poor thing has never had toys before now and if thats the case what do i need to do to help her get use to them so that she knows that they are for play?? thanks again angela

I have a too, so I will be able to help if you ever need to pm me.
First aboutt he toys...You are correct, she might not have had many or if she did, she didn't know how to play with them. Believe it or not you are going to have to show her how to play with toys. Also foraging toys are great for keeping them busy. Also with many too's you need to introduce new things slowly. I will set new stuff on a table really close to their cage for a few weeks. This way they see it all the time and realize that toy isn't going to attack and kill them. My Ellie also loves Paper grocery sacks. Even the little lunch bags (paper) I will throw toys, nut, something and then crunch it up, she has to rip and tear apart to see what is in there. Also an old sock that you put treat or toy in, then fold it over, and more stuff, fold over, add more stuff, etc. That ways theyre are many layers of fun things to hunt for! As far a food, I know my too is 200% times worse than my Macaw about wasting food. She will toss out about 3/4 of the items in her dish. That is a too for you. She also may have been hand fed and wasn't made to hold her own stuff. My macaw was like that. She will catch on eventually. As long as she is eating I wouldn't worry. Do you have her on pellets yet? I would get her to a vet ASAP to rule out any physical conditions that may be causing the plucking. Then if those all come back, then she either has a habbit, or she was terribly bored at her old house, or didn't get a lot of one on one time.! Also there are too owners on here that disagree with me, but then there are other's on here that DO agree about petting. I can pet my macaw on his back, and under wings without causing sexual behavior. Toos are an exception to the rule. My avian vet along with MY OWN OPPINION is that to not pet them anywhere besides the head, neck and feet. Too's are more prone to become sexualy stimulated. Another reason perhaps she plucked, because her prior owners did pet her everywhere and frustrated her! Read this article! It is excellent! Sexual behavior As I said before please feel free to pm any time. Best of luck
