Talking then not talking anymore

Just a curious question

does anyone have a bird that talked when they got it but stopped permanently?

chickie baby was talking up a storm until i put her in the car to come home from picking her up and has not talked since

i know ive only had her for a few days but i was just curious as to whether or not stress could make a bird quit talking

either way i lurv her, just wondering

Absolutely (stress)... give her a chance to settle in. I am sure she will start talking again.

but i guess its a necessary evil to get her to a better place in life
i really hope she keeps progressing like she has :)

My Mili will yell "Cock-a-doodle-doo, come and get me." It took him about 4 days to settle in after we brought him home. Now he wont hush up.

It could be stress, or...

Do any of your other birds talk? If not, it could be that she sees that your other birds do not talk and is repressing it.

We had Rita and Tooki for about four years before we brought home Jazzy, our E2, a little less than a year ago. Rita does not really talk, but Tooki can mimic most of her sounds. He started making noises on his own for a while, then stopped, almost like he was embarrassed that he was doing something wrong because Rita didn't do it, too!

When we got Jazzy he was already seven years old and a very good talker. After we had him for a while, Tooki started making his noises again and now he says peek-a-boo. He did stop for a while again back in April after he got an infected preen gland and plucked out most of his feathers, but that was probably due to stress. He is back to normal now and starting to say a few more things.

Keep talking to her, repeating words you know she can say, and try to expose her to some talking birds - maybe you can get her to start talking again.

Good luck!
