Cockatoos like to share!
Who says cockatoos don't think of anyone but themselves??
Our duck, who lost her mate last month and is pretty lonely, has been coming in and out of the house through the dog door (or is it a duck door now?) in order to dine on the food that the parrots drop on the floor. She also sticks her bill into the bottom trays of the cages to pick up anything that has fallen down in there. This in and of itself is really cute, other than the fact that there's a duck in the house, but the other day we witnessed what can only be described as...really, really cute: Our Citron-crested cockatoo, Yoyo, was scooping her pellets out of the bowl onto the floor, and watching with great interest as the duck snapped them up. She continued to do this until her bowl was empty.
I've heard of parrots doing this for the family dog. It seems that ducks make the list of animals a parrot can make friends with.
Now if I can just get the duck more interested in staying outside! It looks like we'll be going duck-shopping soon, so she can have a companion and stay outside where she, and our floors, will be better off.
