getting ready to lay an egg?

How can you tell if your cockatoo is getting ready to lay? She has no mate but it looks like she has an egg developing right above her rectum. I'm not quite sure if you can even tell at all...I will feel like a total idiot if I am asking a stupid question....

Hens usually become extra nesty, perhaps even territorial, trying to find places to make a nest in a dark area or underneath something... If the bird doesn't lay an egg within two days it *MIGHT NOT* be an egg your seeing but perhaps something else, which might need to get checked out by an avian vet.

First there are no stupid questions:) When my M2 is getting ready to lay she will shred everything she can get her beak on. She also spends a lot of time at the bottom of her cage. When she is truly ready to lay the egg her vent will keep puckering up like she is going to go potty and then back and repeat till it's laid.
