Questions about breeding a cockatoo

I am asking this question for someone else. They have a male and female umbrella cockatoos together they know she is ready to breed because she keeps raising her tail. Do they have to have their privacy or just a nesting box. I breed cockateils but I thought I would ask for them.

If they don't know the answer to so simple a question why on earth are they considering breeding? Do they know how aggressive U2's can get during breeding (both to each other and their owner), how large an aviary they need, what kind of a nest box is needed so the female can escape attack, how to handfeed from day one if the parents reject the young? Etc. Etc. Tell them to buy a few books on breeding cockatoos and/or get on this (or any other board) and ask every question they can think of if they insist they want to breed.

actually I was thinking the same thing after I posted this. Was curious not intending on breeding my cockatoo. That is how I found out how to breed cockateils and then I was very cautious.

Geez, what is with all the people wanting to breed their birds lately? Especially cockatoos. I agree, a question like this proves these people need to stay far, far away from breeding. Plus, they must not be aware that cockatoos are by FAR the most rehomed, given up and abandoned parrots.

Please forward this 9 minute video to your friend. It's brief and gives a great explanation! YouTube - Important Issue

Ditto!!

Of all the species of bird we DO NOT need more of, Cockatoos of any type are number #1.

There are so, so many Toos in rescues and looking for new homes on CL .. breaks my heart to see these majestic birds tossed around like a used paperback book.
