Red face My experience with cockatoos.

Today was a very interesting day for me, I went to visit my aunts house, which I have not visited in many years, I always thought of their house, sort of like a zoo, mainly because they own just about any animal >_> well, to get to the point.

I was excited because I know that they had 2 cockatoos and I wanted to see them badly, when I came in the house, it was so horrible, they own a standard cockatoo and a mollucan cockatoo, first of all the separate cage was way OLD, the paint was chipped off, and it was rusted, they had NO TOYS! and the perches needed some updating, the cage was just very boring

Second; The mollucan was a plucker, due to the fact that they get no attention at all, no playtime and they HAVEN'T been out of their cages in forever.. It looked so horrible, :/ I think there was a cut on this belly where he plucks, THE POOR THING dint scream, it whistled instead but just made a whistling sound, very low.

The umbrella cockatoo, was beautiful it had such a nice personality, at least it wasnt a plucker. It could say hi and dance and many other words that I dint hear, it was impressing

I heard the bird scream, it was very loud! but I can handle it. didnt bother me.

I was fearless of both birds, they were real nice and I JUST MET THEM, they did not try to bite me at all, i went into the kitchen got some fruits, fed them both, I could tell they needed some fruits! they loved it, they were about the nicest birds, they didnt bite at all, I even petted their beaks from the outside, theyre so cuddly, and nice!
I told my aunt she needed to spend time with them, but she said shes scared that it might bite her because she hasnt spend time with them, but that is just bull she came and petted the bird and the bird looked so sad, like it needed it!

Cockatoos are very beautiful!

Both of the birds were so cuddly and the look on their eyes soo sad, they have a place on my heart, there was nothing I could do, but one day I will re home them. I hope to own them.

Their birds were just a thing that once they loved, but got tired of them. so sad.. so irresponsible!

I'm a terrible writer.

Thats sad, Its good that your planning on taking them in when you can! I feel the same way about my Uncles Bluefronted Amazon. he has at the most 2 toys and a small cage and gets no attention. If im ever in the position when i can take him, i will. They already offeref to give him to me, but my parents bad already bought Cookie and were keeping him at a friends house until they gave him to me.

I know what it feels like to see sad animals treated bad by someone you love. D:

Are they aware that they aren't providing the right care they need? With my uncle, they beleive they're doing everything they need for him. he's twenty-one and they've had him since he was a baby. They take him to an avian vet whenever he needs to go, they just don't know what they're doing wrong. Thats what makes me sad. I wish all bird owners would spend the time to properly educate themselves before commiting to a parrot.

They had them for years, and eventually stopped caring at all, my uncle keeps getting different pets ( he got a snake) and is about to get a chameleon.. its so sad seing the bird pluck himself up like that, it has become a habit, but i wish u guys were there to see the face she made when i came near that cage i petted her head, and she just looked so sad, like she needed to be petted. :(

If the plucker has a wound on her chest, it's most likely that she's gone beyond plucking and is now self-mutilating. Poor thing.

You could call your local animal care and control or humane society and anonymously lodge a complaint. Might help your heart feel a little better.

You can't call? If you don't have a phone, or access to a phone, I would be happy to help you!
