Well, that can be true but Tiki Bird was just at the avian vet's office two months ago - did a whole blood panel, etc. Everything came back within normal ranges. His weight is good, he is as obnoxiously active as usual so I'm not worried about his health too much.

Beautiful RB2. Aren't they most adorable little birds. Mine has the cutest voice.
I don't know about the tail feathers. I just ordered the Galah "encyclopedia" from Australia. I will look it up when it gets here. I found this when I was looking for books---It made me cringe. Amazon.com: How to Cook a Galah (9780734403964): Laurel Dyson: Books |

Thanks, he is a gorgeous little bird!
Matt, all his nails are blackish/dark grey but he is getting some pink feathers on his wings too. Not very many, but a few. Cooking a galah?! Ugh!!! When I lived in Australia, I'd see flocks of galahs out at the barn and in the countryside, so I guess I can understand the creation of the recipe book. Many people consider the RB2 to be a pest, so they would have little value to them other than potential stew. And I must admit, when Tiki Bird decides to be a naughty little galah, the thought of cooking him seems more attractive.

Doesn't the word galah also mean a fool or idiot???? The information about the book reads as follows
A delicious feast for all Australian food lovers - full of tantalising recipes and stories, as well as being a succinct history of our cooking and eating habits from the time of the very first Australians. It may be possible that the book does talk about cooking cockatoos, however, from reading a bit more about it I'm not entirely sure. How to cook a galah Found this link with some recipes in it, and truth be honest I found it a little funny! 13.1.3 Meat Pies, Damper, Galah, pumpkin soup Or another on how to cook a galah!!!! Just Another Pommie Jackeroo 11 _ how to cook a galah I don't know much about Australian humour, but I hear it's wicked!!!! ![]() So all I've got to say is don't take the title serious, until you've read it! Perhaps it's not what you think it is!

Monica, LOL! I loved this recipe:
![]() Having plucked and cleaned galahs, place in a large saucepan of water over an open fire. Add two or three large rocks from a creek nearby. Boil for two to three days, adding water as required. By this time the rocks should have softened, throw away the galahs and eat the rocks. |
