Introducing......Pumpkin!!!!

This past weekend after a few weeks of talking to Magdalena (about the M2 - Pumpkin that needed to be rehomed that she posted about a few weeks ago) and Pumpkin's mom we finally made the drive up there to visit Pumpkin and his mom and to take him home if things worked out. Luckily they did and Pumpkin is home with us now.

Didn't want to let the cat out of the bag before so I wouldn't jinx it but he's here now and I can't be happier. Just didn't feel real till we were pulling into her driveway.

He's still settling in and is a little melancholy at times and it tugs at my heart to wonder how he must be feeling when he gets this far off look in his eyes having his whole world turned upside down the way it has. I feel such a deep connection with this guy already, it might be me feeling sorry for him but I just want to make him happy. I am just so honored to have him here and to have been entrusted by his mom to be his new family and I love him already. He's such a gentle soul and he's everything and more that Magdalena described him as in her post. He's snuggly, sweet and just absolutely gorgeous. I don't like to gush because it seems insincere but I just feel so much about this guy already and it took me by surprise.

Thank you so much Magdalena for being the go-between and recommending me to Pumpkin's mom. I think that while he's going through a tough time right now, in the long run i'm certain he'll be happier here once he gets adapted.

Every word you wrote made me so happy he gets to enjoy life with you. Yes, his world has been turned upside down but I think with you watching out for him he will, soon enough, come to a new level of appreciation and joy in life.

Keep us posted. He sounded like such a great bird. I'm so glad he found his way to you. If I remember correctly his owners were more concerned he went to the 'right' person than anything else. It sounds like they got their wish.

Congratulations! So glad you were able to give this little one a new home. I hope you enjoy many happy years together (once he settles in, of course)!

Cheers to you for helping a parrot in need!

Thanks so much for giving pumpkin a new home! Thanks to special people like you, this guy will hopefully never have to know what it's like to be lost and neglected!

Thank you everyone.

Pumpkin is slowly but surely coming out of his shell. He is a joy to have. I've situated his cage right next to the couch because it seems to be his safety blanket and i've begun spending a lot of time on the couch to coax him over. He comes down now to spend time with me but at first he'd keep his feet firmly planted on the side of his cage so he could make a fast get-a-way if something startled him. Then he would come down and remove one foot from the cage and keep the other firmly planted on the side of his cage. Now, he comes down and sits on the arm of the couch but with his back to me and his face pressed into the cage, ready to escape. I think we're making real progress and its only been a week, it feels like slow going but I know that he's actually doing really well. He steps up for me pretty regularly now and always comes over to greet me when I stop by his cage to say hello. He loves me to rub him and love on him. Took him outside today briefly and he sat contentedly on my shoulder all puffed up and happy. Didn't seem fearful at all, but i've noticed when he's away from his cage, i'm his security blanket and he holds on tight.

So far so good.

I'm so happy this worked out. Sorry I haven't been on, I need to call his old owner too and make sure she's doing ok. I didn't want to say anything and jinx it either!
