Dolly Is On Her Way!

Today is a very exciting day for us as well as Moluccan Cockatoo Dolly and bird board member Glenda who will become Dolly's new mommy before the end of the day. Glenda is everything and more than we could have hoped for when looking for a new home for Dolly and her old owner also feels a great deal of peace about the decision. I know the two families will become close friends as they have the love of such a special bird in common. We packed some fresh and dry food for Dolly to have something to munch along the way and I threaded her carrier with shreddable palm toys and popsicle sticks to keep her occupied (and also to keep fingers out of her carrier, as the airline has requested). I think this idea is much better than my last disaster of an idea to line the carrier with chicken wire (sorry, Marlee) and Dolly was already having fun chewing apart popsicle sticks on the way to the airport this morning. Dolly was very relaxed, stepped right into her carrier and got comfortable for the ride. She was whistling at the cargo staff and just being her (naturally) showy self. I am very excited for Glenda and pray that Dolly has a beautiful new life where she never has to experience abuse again. Congratulations Glenda. all the best to you and your new feathered kiddo. Please send pictures!
-Anna

Whew! I am tired this morning. Dolly got put on a later flight, because of bad weather and I FREAKED OUT!!!! We found out EXACTLY where she was and I felt a little better. Still couldn't relax until she was in my arms though.

On the ride home, I got her out and she plastered herself to my chest. She loves me!!! I tried to get a picture but it was dark and I couldn't get her to sit out on my knee in the truck. She is a love!

She is whistling and talking up a storm this morning. Ahhh, now she is hollering at the cockatoos in the next county!

Pictures later today!

Glenda, that's great news! Am I correct in assuming that once you share your home with one loud cockatoo, you become far too deaf to hear any additional cockatoos you may add to your flock??

High five to you, for taking on another big too and giving Dolly the opportunity to have a wonderful life. And of course, Kudos to Anna for being so dedicated to finding great homes for these wonderful creatures!!!
