Oliver goes to a new home tomorrow

Tomorrow Oliver will be going to his new home. Our very own Poohbird, (Peggy) will be his new mommy. I feel she is a good choice because she will be able to work with him more. Other than being spooked and not trusting hands, he has no other issues. No more plucking thank God! I am unable to keep him out of his cage and spend with them the quality time he needs. I know this is the RIGHT choice for him, me and Peggy. She provides such a caring loving home for all of her babies, furry, feathery and fleshy. And I know she will give him what he needs and more. It does sadden me that I'm not keeping him, but it eases my pain that she'll have him. I will get to see him when I get a chance to visit and we talk weekly and she'll give me updates as she does with her other babies. A big thanks to Peggy for offering Oliver a new loving home. In my heart he will always be my baby.

I'm sorry it didn't work out better for you and Oliver but Peggy does seem like a wonderful choice for a new mom. I recently had to rehome one of my birds because his safety was at risk here. He had two near tragic (one near fatal) incidents twice in one week. One of which caused me to fall through our coffee table and hurt my back. Sometimes what we want and what is in their best interest are different routes. I commend you for trying to give him what he needed and having the strength to do what is best for him and know that keeping him is not. A lot of people get upset when a person admits they cannot keep a bird but I feel that keeping an animal in a situation that isn't the best for them when you know of one that would be better isn't fair to them.
Hugs Red. I've missed your posts and updates on your babies.

Oliver was spooked 8 months ago by something in my home. We make progress then we lose that progress. He's a happy bird but I think he can be much happier with her. I trust Peggy with my life so I know she's great a choice. I have to do what is BEST for Oliver, not me. I love that bird more than I can express. But my love for him is greater than my needs.

Thank you Terri for trusting in me. I will give Oliver all the attention he needs. He will be fine here, even if we work on it slowly. The time is all on his terms. (Since I don't work I have all the time he needs) I will love him and spoil him and enjoy all he has to offer. He will be able to come out of his cage whenever he feels he wants to. And of course, you know you can visit whenever you want. He will always be your baby, I am just gonna spoil him more for you.

And that means alot to me Peggy. I know you are the right person for him. I hope he comes out of that shell we're trying to break apart. Going to work on your email now.

Something similar happened to Henry (rfm). Last year I went into the hospital for a week, then again a month later. When I came out the first time, he had lost all trust in me. I was never able to gain his trust back so when I was offered a great home for him that was better able to fit his needs (other rfm companionship, the choice to not have to have too much human interaction, a large outdoor aviary), I decided to give him the chance to have what he wanted.

I know Peggy is going to take good care of him. No IFs ANDs or BUTS about it. We had to do what is best for them over our needs. Sorry I don't frequent here much but an incident left a bad taste in my mouth and I have lost my desire to be here. I probably won't post many photos of my guys unless they are in the house. Don't wanna make anyone angry!

Terry, I'm glad to see you out here again. I'm glad you are finding a situation for Oliver that gives you peace. From what I hear, Cockatoos are complex little guys. I know you've had a rough stretch. I hope that is resolving itself and life is showing signs of getting easier.
