Aggressive Male

Thank you all:

Hollyhawkz. I couldn't figure out how to reply to your message. I have my two toos, separated in their own cages, next to each other. I only just let them out together yesterday, while I was in the room watching carefully. I'm hoping they can live peaceably, as I like both birds. Both seem calmer around each other. I'm not interested in their mating. Was just hoping they could be flockmates

Is there a specific mating time to watch out for? Or is it any time?
Thanks, Umbrellas

Hi, so glad you're back. I am not sure on mating season of Toos. I have a rehomed U2. I don't think what anyone said was out of line at all. They were speaking from experience and knowledge. Their true concern was for the female too. Males can definitely be agressive and leaving them unsupervised is dangerous. Just because they are fine one day, doesn't mean the next day will be so sweet. A male in sexual arousal is a demanding and dangerous opponent. I think if you are present while they are out you shoud be ever careful and watchful. Having their cages near eachother is fine, as long as the female is not to stressed and plucking more.

I am so glad to hear from you! We have many members here on BirdBoard that care deeply about birds and want to help new members so very much. Folks will be glad you're back.

The message was just information I copied off the thread, so no biggie. For future reference, after you hit reply, you have to scroll down under all the message that the person sent you and type in there then hit send.

Now that they are separated, you can start a new thread with new questions. Experienced Too owners are waiting to respond and help the best they can.

Again welcome back!

Welcome back!
Mating season for U2s is Nov/Dec-March/April as far as I know, so it's a little early... That said, I think those were wild U2s. It's hard to be sure.

Small activities such as feeding them and putting them to bed at the same time will help with developing a flock mentality... But for now it may be best to have them out one at a time, and be very careful with letting them land on the others' cage.

Keep an eye on the female - if she's stressed she will show signs of it... Keeping an eye on the male makes sense too, but if he's bullying her when you're not there to see it you should be able to tell by the female and how she regards the male.

Wish you all the best with your two, I'm sure there's plenty of people here that can help you with your concerns. U2s seem fairly popular as toos go!

!
I would say-do NOT do that... its a good way to have one or the other loose toes.
