I recently adopted a 30 yr old male too, hoping that he would be at least a friend for my 8 yr old female, who is a feather plucker Have had him a month. He is aggressive toward female, chasing her so that she seems fearful. I discovered that he bit her foot, drawing blood. (He must have been in her cage, she on the outside). Do you think he would try to kill her, or is this just getting acquainted behavior?

Yes, I also have heard of males killing females. We keep them in cages where they cannot escape as in the wild.
You might try to keep them in separate cages next to each other for awhile. |

Please read this..
Cockatoo Aggression Just do a search on Google and you'll see how serious this is. I'm really sorry you're having problems but why oh why do people do this with little or no research??! Cockatoo's reputations precede them! ![]()

YES. He -WILL- try to kill her. HE -WILL- harm her. He -WILL- be violent to her.
Cockatoos are one of the most notorious mate killers in the parrot world. Breeders of Cockatoos will often clip the upper mandible off a male so it won't turn on a hen. Ever see a Cockatoo nest box? TWO HOLES! They need TWO holes to keep the hen safe so she can escape the male. I breed birds, but I -DO NOT- breed Cockatoos, and this is one of my main reasons. If they aren't friendly, you need to separate -NOW-. Not 10 minutes from now, not tomorrow. RIGHT NOW. If you don't, you'll be sorry and 100% entirely at fault. SEPARATE THEM NOW.

Let's be a little less agressive to the new person here! They've come to us to seek advise and we've given it to them... but I think the onslaught below might sound a bit aggressive ( ) to a new member.I agree that they should seperate the two and only put them in close proximaty under close observation (never together out of the cage unless you're willing to take a few chomps of your own to seperate them). But I think they get the idea after the fist two messages, the onslaught of "DO IT NOW" statements is a bit much. I too hope she returns... for more "help and assistance" and stories and pictures...

At this point it's all mute anyway... The original poster made one post and never even stayed around long enough to read responses. Let's save our passionate concern, and not knock ourselves out over this just yet. Hopefully they return for further advise.
