It must be love!
I've been bird sitting a Moluccan cockatoo for almost a month now and he's going home tomorrow. I have an Umbrella cockatoo, so I figure I should be able to handle the noise, but OMG this boy can make a hell of a lot more noise than Chianti!! He shrieks almost constantly when he's out and about and it's just ear splitting!!
His "flock" have had him for 24 years, they got him as a wild caught baby, and while he's tame enough, his vocal chords are strong enough to drown out the loudest thing you can imagine. All I can say is, it must be love that they share with this bird. I will say this though, he has a sleeping cage in my bedroom and when he and Chianti are about to go to sleep, they grind their beaks in sync. I've come to be soothed by that noise...while other people I've met think it sounds AWFUL. lol, do you like the noise?

I do not own a Cockatoo, but I do love to hear my Shakti and Baby do that. When I am laying down watching tv sometimes they will sit on the back of the couch and make those little noises. I just love it! and you are right it is soothing.

I love Paco's beak grinding and beak chattering, they are my favorite thing next to his happy squinty eyes when I scratch his face and ears. I read somewhere that Moluccans are the loudest animals in the world, and can attest to is as well! Our neighbors think we have kids, and I just let them think that is what makes all the noise coming from our house at sunset.

Haha, that's how I feel about the owners of largers 'toos when I hear them! I don't think I could get used to the sound of a U2 or large SC2!
That said... I'm sure some people with smaller birds think the same about Luen. Ah, it's who you are and who you love, I guess XD

I have 2 Umbrellas and when the do decide to Cockatoodledoo it is pretty loud. The dogs do not appreciate it at all. However, they usually do that in the morning for a bid and then I put food in their bowl and they busy themselves with that. They are not screamers, it is just natural for them to crow when the sun comes up!

As I sit here with ear plugs in my ears, and cotton in the dogs, Pablo is out screaming his joy to the universe (I'm sure they hear him on the furthest space outposts if there are some). Watching his happy dance makes it all worthwhile. We are also working on reinforcing nice quiet Pablo, and not loud screeching out of pure brattiness Pablo. He had both dogs howling an hour ago. I'm glad it muffles high pitches, but allows for hearing Survivor!! I love our Crazy Pink Penguin. My house pig Pippin can hit some major decibles, but not for the length of time Pablo does.
I love the pics of your U2 with the visiting M2. It's cool they like each other. |

My dog bear starts to howl when the cockatoos (well, mostly just Sadie) goes off. I think I'm pretty immune to it- it generally doesn't bother me until I have a migraine or I'm really trying to concentrate on something. Normally I can just tune it out now. I'm fostering a macaw right now and that's taking some getting used to (his scream- although its not very loud and he doesn't do it often)- just because its different from a cockatoo scream lol. I think the noise that most annoys me would be tiny dog yips- that can be annoying. Cockatoos- I don't know...I just got used to it and it honestly doesn't bother me all that much. Of course, noise affects people differently.

Honestly, I work with middle school kids, so I am surrounded by noise all day. Today has been a long and trying one. Of course, now the screaming of joyousness is over and it is sweet pink bird for the remainder of the evening. What more could we ask for. The price is worth the prize!!
