Once started....

... it's hard to stop them.

I never really expected Valo to talk, and I didn't mind either (I talk enough for both of us ). And then the little man surprised me by looking at me about 2 months ago and telling me to "Step Up". Since then, he picked up "Come here" and "Valo".

I'm sitting at my desk, trying to work. Valo is in his cage since he's not leaving me alone tonight, and all I hear is

"STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP, STEP UP"

That's so cool It IS hard to stop them once they start!! What does his voice sound like, is it his own or does he try to imitate your voice?

Be careful what you say to your birds! Try to teach them only what you wouldn't mind being repeated over and over and over again!

This morning, my CAG, KoKo, nonstop said he was "gonna take a shower." Mind you he has a 100+ word vocabulary, but that phrase was IT for the morning. Eventually I think even he got tired of the repetition.

When your GCC learns a new word, that'll replace Step Up!

funny enough he doesn't try to imitate me.... it's easy to hear when he actually talks because his voice is deeper than his babbling voice (so very much man-like )

well, he seems to be especially fond of "step up"... he does say other words, but "step up" is what he repeats when he wants me to come and get him (and "come here" - very charming.... I should add "please" to all of those )

I have a four month old green cheek. How old is Valo? Did he seem to try to talk before he came out with words or did it just come out of the blue? Mine hardly makes any sounds yet, let alone words! Anyway, congrats. That is so exciting!

That is great. Congratulations! How old is Valo?
My greencheeks are still young, 4 months and 9 months. If they should ever talk ,the first thing they would say is probably "poopy" because every morning I take both of them and hold them over our "poopy pot"(plant) and say poopy, poopy until they finish their business.
My other GCC, Kiwi(RIP) only said Kiwi and green.

valo is a year and a half... he didn't talk until a few months ago, and then - yes it came out of the blue... no warning. i wasn't expecting it, but it was soo clear i couldn't mistake it for anything else but "step up" (his first and favorite)

it usually takes a while - valo wasn't very vocal until he was about a year

Unfortunately, Rigel only chatters when I'm talking to him, so I'm always talking over him, so I don't really know if he says words or its all in my imagination. I think right now he's just repeating the rhythm of my words, but its still cute. Its nice to know there's a "blossoming" down the road for my little cuddly bird. :) I bet it will be Step Up and Poop...

As long as all the green cheek owners are here...can you tell me, does the "crazy hyper" stage settle down after the baby stage? Even a LITTLE??? I would love if mine would sit still even for a few minutes! (4 months old).
