Question Question about my GCC and Cockatiel??

Hi Everyone!

I am new to this forum and have a question. First of all I have a Lutino Cockatiel. He is gegorous!! His name is Shelby, and I have had him for 5 years. Just last week I accidentally fell in love with a cinnamon green cheek conure. I went to the petstore to buy Advantage for my dog, and there he was. Two days later he was home with me. His name is now Lexus, and he is only 3 months old.

My question, since Lexus is so young, is there a chance that they will get along? They have been so far. My Cockatiel does not appreciate the new birds baths, but they have got along fine to this point. I have their cages sitting side by side, and leave their doors open, so they can visit if they want. My green cheek is always going to the cockatiel's cage. He is even trying to somewhat fly like my cockatiel can, to my shoulder. Will they eventually be able to get along, and housed in one cage?

My other question, does anyone elses green cheek sleep with thier foot on their head. He runs his foot up through the feathers on his neck and then sits his foot on his head and sleeps like that? I will post pictures at a later date.

Thanks

Sorry, I can't help you with your question. I just wanted to say, "Welcome to Birdboard!"

I have just got to see those pics of your green cheek sleeping with his foot on his head. That sounds adorable!

Quarantine is always best, especially with a bird from a petstore. Better to be safe than sorry.

That said, birds are a lot like people in that they have different personalities. Yours might get along, then again they might not. I personally would never force two birds to share a cage unless they are hatchmates(and even then would seperate in a heartbeat if there was any sign of a squabble), but that's just me. It can lead to behavioral problems down the road if one bird decides to bully the other who then can't get away from it.

Greencheeks are clowns and I'm always surprised at the ways my little one finds to sleep. Usually it's her hidey hut, but sometimes its on her back on the cage floor or even hanging from the top of the cage. I tease her that she must be part monkey.

Good luck with your new baby.

My Green Cheek gets along with 2 of my tiels. MEANING they dont fight but can be on top of the cages or in their bird tree together. But I dont think I would ever trust Houdini enough to cage them all together. Houdini has some major attitude (like most conures) and thinks he is actualy bigger than my tiels and even sometimes my sun. Which of course, he isnt lol.
