Red face I'd love some opinions on a few cages for my GCC!

Hello everyone! I'm new to the board, and have the spent the last week and a half or so reading tons and tons of old threads in order to glean as much information as possible so I wouldn't have to bug anyone with cage questions. Wishful thinking on my part -- I just can't buy without first trying to get the opinions and input of people with so much knowledge and experience.

Would anyone mind commenting about this particular cage? The dimensions sound good for my little Bean (GCC), but I guess I'm just looking for someone to enable me. Also, since this cage question was breed-specific, and since similar questions were posted in this forum, I figured that it would be ok here. If not, let me know -- I can always post over in the cage forum if I screwed up!

Bean's future crib?

Hi! I would want to know the bar spacing, that cage looks like it was designed for a larger parrot.I like 1/2 to 5/8 bar spacing for a smaller conure. He might get his head stuck in something with wider spacing.

Thanks for responding, Tena! The listing *says* the bar spacing is 0.625" (5/8"), but something about the picture almost does look like it's wider than that, doesn't it? Weird.

Edited to add: I love how I wrote "a few" cages in my thread title and only actually asked about one in particular. Sorry about that, everyone! I promise that I'm not as dim as I seem. ;)

5/8" should be fine for a GCC... in fact, that's what I have for Valo. However, I personally am not a big fan of playtop cages.... but overall it should be fine for the GCC... I always go a little bigger and spend the extra $100, but that's a matter of taste. As I said, should be fine.

So, now all we have to see is photos of the little one
Welcome to BB!

Why don't you like playtop cages? Just curious. My babies spend soooo much time on theirs! It's either they're on me, or they're on their playtops!

with a playtop it's close to impossible to provide proper lighting to the fids, since the light's supposed to come from the top... also, i hang lots of toys from the top, and i personally wouldn't like it if i had a cover on the cage all the time if i was a bird - so, as i said, i think it's more a personal preference

Man, I need to brush up on my Google-fu, because I am having a heck of a time finding 5/8"-spaced cages that are much bigger. I've been trying, but I'm obviously doing something very, very wrong. I'll keep trying!

Here's the cheeky poppet:

So cute, yet so, so bad.

I have that same cage for my sun conure. It works well enough, though I now wish I had gotten him a wider, roomier cage. I like the cage that gbird has for Pita, and I think I'd get that the second time around. It's just been a little difficult to fit all the many toys, perches, and other birdie things into the cage, especially since he prefers the top half of the cage. I'm sure it's just me though, because I keep buying him stuff despite knowing that I can't fit everything I buy him into a cage of any size.

The playtop is fine because the top drawer comes out. The drawer also will slide over any clasps if you hang toys from the top cage bars. The bar spacing is fine for a conure.

Ah, thanks to saucie, gbird will be receiving some random, unsolicited communication from me regarding her cage. Hopefully she won't mind a random stranger begging her for advice via private message! I'm shameless!
