Clicker training

I picked up a book about clicker training birds to do tricks and stuff. What is your idea of clicker training and/or have you had any success with this? Also, what kind of treat should I use to reward my GCC. I think clicker training seems like a good way of training.

Well as far as GC treats go, Quito just absolutely adores littles pieces of green grapes. You have to sort of limit them to maybe one whole grape per day though, or else they'll start doing their Lorrie poop-shooting imitation. I can get about 12 pieces out of one grape. Little chopped up pieces of (bird safe) nuts would also go well with Quito. I think its harder to treat reward a small bird, because you have to watch how much you give them so closely. She also likes chopped up dried mango but usually chews off a little bit and then drops the rest, so not very suitable for training.

Haven't tried clicker training myself, but have read many good things about it!

There are a ton of books, webpages, and groups out there dedicated to the subject. I've been using it with my GC with success. I only work with her for a few minutes a day because of her short attention span, but she picks things up pretty fast.

For treats I use bits of oat groat, or dried papaya. Just watch your bird closely to find out what it really likes. What does it go for first when you put a fresh dish of food in the cage? Once I figured out what Kizzy likes, I took those things out of her regular diet so that I can use them as special treats only. For some birds, praise and affection may be all they need to get them to "work". You just need to find out what will work for you.

Good luck!
