Time and patience are the key to trust.

One thing you can do is slowly try to give him things like treats or food from your hand. That way he will eventually learn its not going to hurt him.

hey - welcome to BB you'll like it here... there's lots of information around, and people are nice.... one thing for sure - we always want to see birdie photos

congratulations to your sun conure (do you have a name yet?)... they're great pets and companions... regarding the birdie being afraid of your hands: be patient, everything takes time, offer him a treat (piece of apple usually works great), for example on the table while your hands are within sight... gradually move the hands closer, reward whenever he doesn't take off...

those are great treats, but i'd try to change his diet to a lot of fresh veggies and fruit, if he's not already on it....
we bought a little food chopper, and serve freshly chopped carrots, broccoli, kale, tomato, apple, blueberries, celery, mint, pear, kiwi etc for almost every meal... also, birdie bread is easily made (you can find tons of recipes on this board) and healthy

What a beauty......Aren't they the best...lol

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get him from, and how old is he. If he's an older bird that was a rehome, there could be issues and a little baggage that goes with him.

Like others have said, be patient, and let him come to you. Don't force anything. He'll come around and realize you are alright. Treats are a good training thing. And everytime you want him to come to your hands, say step up...he'll come to know that.

Good luck

I got him from PetCo (i know huge gasps!) but he was such a nice bird no bitting and all he wanted to do was climb on me and lick me haha from the moment i walked near his cage he came right up and i knew he was the one i wanted! At the store they said his hatch date was Feb 9 07 so hes still pretty young. Hes actually gotten much better with me and the whole hand thing we hang out from the time i get home from school till its his bedtime! Hes the coolest!

Gasp...I got Pita at Petco, and bigger gasp...I worked there as well.

He's almost a year old, so he'll have quite a bit to adjust to in his new forever home. But he will come around, and end up being the ruler of all he surveys....lol

Pita loves corn, grapes, apples, pomagranit, blueberries. Good luck, keep us posted.
