Blue Crowned Conure and switching from Rainbow to Zupreeme.

This is my first post, but I'm a Bird Mom with a Mission. I have a four month old Blue Crowned Conure named Maja (may-ah) and I have just switched her from Rainbow(Exact) to the Conure fruit pellet mix from Zupreeme. She's on her third day of the diet change and is eating it just fine and is excited to have her cereal... but one striking difference I have noticed since she's been on the Zupreeme... her energy level has gone through the roof! In the whole short time we've been together (one month) I have never seen her so eager to speak human, or as energetic and playful with her toys as she has been this past day or so. Has anyone else noticed anything like this with their own birds?

Welcome to the Group:

I do feel that Zupreem is the better pellet than Exact. That having been said, I'm no fan of any pellet (LOL). However, I feel that what you describe has a lot to do with the age of your baby bird now and the cooler temps. Both things will pep up your bird. The hot and humid summer temps always make for lazy birds and fall is like a tonic. Sounds very normal and natural to me. Congratualtions on your new baby. I just recently saw Paulie for the first time. Cute birds.

Thank you, Outlaw.

I'm an old veteran of breeding Cockatiels and had an abuse rescued Blue Crowned Conure for years before he passed on but this is the first time I've had a Blue Crowned Conure as a baby. Crackers, my rescued Blue Crown was in his late 20's when he died, so there's a huge part of his life that I missed out on, so much of Maja's babyhood is going to be new to me. I want to thank you for the extra insight as to what may be happening.

If it's any consolation... she's not pellet diet only. She loves Fruit, Veggies, and People food too. You're making me feel bad for being a pellet person! J/K

I love zupreem for my conures. I have a bunch of healthy beautiful conures that have been on Zupreem for years.

I have a five year old Bluecrown named Duke who I rescued at a year old. I have never experinced a baby bluecrown. But it sounds to me like your baby if feeling more comfortable and at home now, thus the increase in his activity.
Sometimes it takes a month to really make that change from nursery to a human home.

Lynda

Thank you!
I've heard stories like that about Congo Grey babies, I didn't know it was the same for Conures. Makes sense though. It's going to be an interesting 30 years growing up with her.

I am glad to hear good things about Zupreeme. I was hoping it was one of the better birdie cereals. We're keeping seeds as treat foods (candy).

THINKING ABOUT GETING A BLUE CROWN

I currently have a Dusky Conure and love him. He is a sweety he isn't to loud as far as conures go and he loves to cuddle. I have heard the sun conure and they are very loud. I was wondering if you could tell me if Blue
Crowns are just as loud as Suns or not as loud. As far as temperment how are they. Do they like to cuddle and be scratched? I would appreciate anything you could tell me.

Blue Crowns and Volume

Well, As far as the two blue crown conures I've owned (one was an older conure and now I have a baby) they have volume, but not the ear piercing shrillness of a Sun conure. I've only had mine behave badly if they were having a temper tantrum when their needs were not met as quickly as they would have liked. Give them plenty of toys, give them food and attention, and let them know when you're leaving for work/Greeting them when you come back from somewhere.... it should be fine. It seems to me what they hate most is if you ignore them or make them feel like they're not a part of what is going on in the household, but I'm sure that's the way it is with every parrot.

About pets, scritches, and cuddles... my Blue Crowns have always loved them and need them just as much as food, water, or toys.
I'm sure your Dusky is the same way, Mercedes.

I have a 3 month old Blue Crown named Jewel. I am so happy with her. She loves to cuddle and have her head scratched. I can stretch out her wings, she hangs upside down from my hand. I have a big bowl with a lot of hand toys in it, and she plays for hours pulling every toy out playing with each one. I have to come by once in a while to pick up the toys, but that's no problem. There calls are not ear piercing as everyone makes them out to be. Blue Crowns are a great family bird.

I love blue crowns, I don't think pellets are fair, I meen they are clean, full of nutrition and tasty but it isn't natural. I think they still need some seed as a treat at least whil on pellets. They don't find pellets on the forest floor in the wild. Just my opinion but maybe its better for parrots?

My vet says seeds are junk, that birds these days are not getting what they need .. I have 6 birds.. I have switched them all over to Harrisons.. didn't seem natural to me, but I got the lecture on birds these days.. After being a breeder for 15 years.. man I had to stand at attention.. My Mitred conure is having most of his problem ,she says, cause he favored the saflower seed .. his blood work showed hardly any protein in his body.. so now it's just the harrisons with lafabers vet avicakes.. so he gets the good seed.. ?? if there is one. .
Darn.. live and learn.
