New behaviour..beak rubbing?

Evening,

Well as most of you know, my little guy Murph (GCC) is only about 8-9wks old, not 100% certain how old as the guy I got him from said he was about 5-6wks, but didn't have the time to hand rear him, so I have been doing the job since.

What i do know is that for the first time, today, Murphy actually flew a little! I'm sooo excited, he's been flapping his wings for a couple of weeks but not really going anyway and today he did....

Anyway, back to the question. I've noticed in the last couple of days he's developed a behaviour whereby he seems to want to rub his beak on things. Not all the time, just here and there and quite randomly. At first I thought it was something in his eye and he was rubbing his eye, but the eye is definitely not touching when he does it, nor does he do it constantly or continuously as though something is irritating him. Only the side of his beak and a little of his head....Is this something most conures do? I'm not sure if it's normal or not or what it means....

Sorry, just need to add one more that's a little odd. He will stretch his wings, but he will also stretch a leg...normally the same leg each time...should I be worried about this?

If anyone knows what this behaviour is and can let me know, I'd appreciate it as it's been concerning me...

Thanks heaps!

(edited for spelling..)

Have you noticed if he's doing this beak rubbing after he eats? If so, it's perfectly normal and he's only wiping the food off his beak.
He could also be just scratching an itch, or sharpening and grooming his beak.
And the stretching with one wing and one leg is just that - stretching. It's commonly seen when someone enters the room as a greeting.
My fids do the beak rubbing and stretching every day. Nothing to worry about.

Ahhh thanks sunnyshine...! As he's only just starting doing it I wasn't too sure. He does rub his beak after his formula and he will also do it a bit when he is getting tired. He also does the leg stretch when he's been perched or sitting for a while and goes to move. Yay..happy healthy normal birdie, that's what I like to hear :-)

A bird will hone[sp]their beak as part of natural grooming. If you offer an abrasive surface like a Sandy or Pedi perch this will aid in keeping his beak in great shape.

Just confirming what everyone has said. Rubbing the beak on perches, on carpet, on everything, is normal. So is stretching one wing while raising one leg at the same time. I love when my cockatiels do that. It tells me they're comfortable with my being around them.
