Okay you GCC owners. Let's have a fun poll... well kind of like a poll... hehe

Just thought it might be fun to see some answers from others to compare. Here are my answers.

1. What is your GCC's name, age, gender, and color?
Yazhi, almost 7 weeks old, unknown gender (waiting for results), cinnamon

2. What pellet brand do you feed?
Roudybush and Zupreem

3. Your GCC's favorite food?
Formula (duh, still handfeeding) and dried apple bits

4. Is your GCC wings clipped? If yes, how many flight feathers? Does he/she glide good or bad? Does he/she fly too well with that clip?
2 feathers on each side as of today. He needs to adjust and fly again before I clip more.

5. Do you clip his nails either occasionally or on a regular basis?
Nope, but his nails are very sharp.

6. What is your favorite reason for owning a GCC?
Small clownish bird. Very sweet and cuddly without the big bite of a larger bird. Not loud often. Fun to buy him a variety of toys.

7. What do you wish were a little different with your GCC?
I wish he wouldn't go into screaming fits at times. Especially when it is late. (I am a night owl so lights are on until I go to bed before or after midnight.) Sometimes he is a handful when he is out of his cage and wants to go somewhere I don't want him to. He just keeps trying but I guess that is part of his charm.

Well, since I don't own a GCC, I'll just turn it into a 'conure' questionnaire....


1. What is your Conure's name, age, gender, species, and color?
Noel, approx 16yrs old, gender n/a, cherry head, green/red

2. What pellet/seed brand do you feed?
No pellets. Seed is either Sweet Harvest Cockatiel no sun, or Sleek & Sassy Garden Variety.

3. Your Conure's favorite food?
Noel eats just about anything, although haven't noticed any favorites as far as food goes... She does love peanuts, however she hasn't had any in months (due to issues that come with peanuts).

4. Is your Conure's wings clipped? If yes, how many flight feathers? Does he/she glide good or bad? Does he/she fly too well with that clip?
No, Noel is not clipped. Can she fly/glide? No. She has absolutely no flight ability, therefore falls like a rag-doll.

5. Do you clip your conure's nails either occasionally or on a regular basis?
Sometimes. Noel doesn't have the best of grips that I have noticed, so having her (deformed) nails helps her keep better balance.

6. What is your favorite reason for owning a Conure?
They are medium sized birds, let you know what they want and WHEN they want it! They are quite expressionists.

7. What do you wish were a little different with your Conure?
If anything? I wish she was more friendly, and played more with toys. However, I love her just the way she is!

1) Kramer, like 2-3months, unknown, normal coloration.
2) I cook his food and use a mix that my breeder makes.
3) He likes orange juice.
4) The wings are clipped. I am not sure how many flights are clipped, but I think around 8.
5) I have only gotten them clipped once so far, but will probably trim them along with the wings.
6) Size, color, compatible with other birds.
7) I would like if they were less noisy in the morning and less noisy at night.

Zoey, 10 wks, female, green cheek, cinnamon

2. What pellet/seed brand do you feed?
She hasn't been introduced to seed yet. She was weaned to Roudybush and Zupreem. I often change brands of pellets with all my birds every time I need to buy more. (favorites here are the 2 mentioned above, Harrison's, Mazuri, Foundation Formula and Living World Tropican.

3. Your Conure's favorite food?
Probably corn - though she has seemed to enjoy just about any fresh foods I have given her.

4. Is your Conure's wings clipped? If yes, how many flight feathers? Does he/she glide good or bad? Does he/she fly too well with that clip?

Yes, 4 on each side. She still flies pretty well - doesn't get a lot of height - but can go straight pretty far. Thinking of clipping 1 more on each side - but waiting to see.

5. Do you clip your conure's nails either occasionally or on a regular basis?

Haven't had her long enough to know how often I'll need to clip her nails. I did clip just the very ends off when she came home - she still grips well though. With the other fids I just clip toe nails when they get so sharp I can't stand to hold them anymore! We have different grooming perches in all the cages - and some months they seem to work okay and others not.

6. What is your favorite reason for owning a Conure?

Hmmm, well lots of them - they're cute, cuddly and fun, fun, fun!!! Not as intimidating as the bigger birds - did I mention cute, cuddly and fun??


7. What do you wish were a little different with your Conure?
If anything?

I can't think of anything. We've only had her a week, she's pretty quiet and snuggly. It is funny when she gets mad at me - like when I stop scritching and she wants more - she doesn't bite but kind of bangs her beak on my fingers while making this babbling, irritated sound. Then she closes her eyes and waits for me to start scritching again (which of course I do).

Valo, 6mths, male, green chest/blue wings and neck/red tail

multiple - seed/pellet mix mixed with pellets which is then mixed with plenty of veggies (sometimes feel like all i do is mix bird food )

3. Your GCC's favorite food?

sweet apple, followed by red grapes, followed by birdie banana treat

yes, he's clipped.... don't know exactly how many feathers (guess 4-5)
he glides well with that... he can keep himself from falling down like a rock and can make some distance by flattering.... would say it's pretty close to perfect

haven't clipped his nails so far, but he's overdue since i look like owning a cat rather than a bird due to all the little fine scratchmarks he leaves when he's crawling around on me

6. What is your favorite reason for owning a GCC?

they are adorable, insanely pretty, very interactive, love to play, take your life and turn it upside down because it's all about them, but at the same time they are relatively QUIET

7. What do you wish were a little different with your GCC?

do they come without a beak? my lil' Valo is very active, loves being around people who play with him... but sometimes he just seems to forget in his excitement that his beak can cause minor (but still) damage to mommy's skin

His name is Midori, and he's just over 1 year old now.

2. What pellet brand do you feed?

None, he likes seeds and fresh fruit/veg.


3. Your GCC's favorite food?

Fruit....and more fruit!


4. Is your GCC wings clipped? If yes, how many flight feathers? Does he/she glide good or bad? Does he/she fly too well with that clip?

His right wing is clipped, not sure how many feathers but maybe 5 or 6? He doesn't glide at all really, but rarely falls anyway. He's fairly bomb-proof.

Occasionally, when they need it. He does not enjoy the procedure, so it happens only when needed.


6. What is your favorite reason for owning a GCC?

they're the cutest most adorable thing on this Earth!


7. What do you wish were a little different with your GCC?

Hmmmm. My little one has a slight kidney problem, so I wish his poop was firmer, lol, but other than that he's a sweety.

Tony- Greencheek,, 8 months old, male, green, red heart on belly
Carmela- Yellowsided Greencheek 12 months old, female, green with lots of yellow and red

They eat a mix of pellet, seed and fruit mixed at the bird store

3. Your GCC's favorite food?

Corn, grapes, cherries

Where clipped when I first bought them but Carmela's have since grown out and she is a wonderful flyer. Tony's haven't grown out yet but will soon.

They had them clipped a few times but it is hard for them to sit on people without sliding off.


6. What is your favorite reason for owning a GCC?

They are beautiful and fun to have around. Very outgoing and nosy.

7. What do you wish were a little different with your GCC?

I wish Tony would bite less. I guess he is so bonded to Carmela that I am only useful as a perch or waitress.
