i honestly dont see a point to burning candels, light? okay but whats a flashlight and lantern for then? their just fire starters. if you want your house to smell good, use all natural ways. Lemon juice spray, Cinnamon sticks, you can cook up a special lemon and cinnamon mix around christmas ( i forget the recipe) it smells delicious and its 100% bird safe. But i really dont see a need for candels. but their definatly a nono for birds even if their not scented, they still smoke.

i used to loveee my candles and insence but that is one thing that you definantly do need to give up for your bird/birds. its not worth risking it because it could harm the birds.
however... in response to LolaPlus10... if anyone knows any of these reciepes, please share with us! i would love to try them out! i love homemade potpuri and stuff like that! :) other than that, MANGO37... my advice to you is dont use candle warmers as they arent really any different than burning the candle-- it still releases the scent... even if u burn the candles in a different room its possible it could still hard your bird, and its really not worthit. i LOVE candles too, but its a sacrifice i made when i decided to get a birdie!

OH MAN!!! Lemon spray!!! What a good idea!!!! That's why I love this season. It gets cooler outside and it's an excuse to start baking all the yummy things that make the house smell good.

You can do this:
In a simmer pot or crock pot, add water, cinammon, apple pie spice and lemon or orange skins. It will smell like apple pie. You can do the same with pumpkin pie spice.

Well...there are many reasons for candles - even unscented. I must light candles every Friday night at sundown to mark the beginning of the Jewish Sabbath. Bird or no bird. I use unscented Kosher made candles in the next room over from the bird's cage. I keep them in the freezer & snuff them to avoid smoke.

candles
Thanks everyone for your replies. As many animals as I got I don't care about the smell. If people don't like it they can leave. I love my babies. Don't get me wrong. I'm not a hoarder. My husband compares me to noahs ark. Gotta have two of everything. Candles are relaxing to watch but what has to be, has to be. I got rid of all my teflon pans. No more good eggs or together pancakes.

and i beleive teflon is still safe if used at low temps and youre not burning or scorcing the pot and the bird is in another room or a fans on blowing the "fumes" away. the article i had on it was on paper so i cant link you guys to it :P but we still try and stay away from it. |
