Sun Conure Twitching

Hi! My name is Maureen. I just got my first sun conure last week. The breeder I got Kira from said she is 3 months old. She is the SWEETEST bird ever! I am just crazy about her.

I am a little concerned tho. I have read that the bobbing of the head is normal. I am concerned about this "twitch" she has. Her wings twitch. It is almost like the hiccups - but only her wings move...and it happens often. I just want to make sure she is ok. She is also not loud...hardly peeps. Do you think I should have her checked out?

I just want to make sure I do the right thing.

Thanks for your help!

Maureen

Hi Maureen! First of all, welcome to BB!!! Second, congratualtions on your new family member! I have a sun conure as well. I got her when she was 4 months old. She will be a year old in a couple of weeks. She is actually pretty quiet as well. Especially for a conure. My mom and dad's conure is pretty noisy and Kiri is NO WHERE NEAR as noisy as he is. Maybe you lucked out like I did. As far as the twitching, Kiri does it too. Especially when she is hungry. She sits on her bowl, straddled, puts her head down and her wings twitch. I dont think its anything to worry about. Kiri has done it ever since I got her. You might want to call your breeder and ask her just to ease your mind.

i honeslty do not know about the twitching but its always a very good idea to have a visit to the vet anyways when getting a new bird! just to make sure everythiing is healthy.

as far as not making much noise.. different birds react differently to adjustments in a new home.. give him a while..

i definantly would still recommend taking her to a vet for a checkup anyways!

Thanks so much for the quick response.
I did call the breeder. She was a little hesitant but said it was because she was enjoying the attention etc. I just wanted to see if anyone else had one that did the same thing. I am relieved now. I will be taking her to the vet this week.
I am looking forward to meeting everyone at BB. It is very informative and looks like great people!

congrats on your fid and welcome to BB.
Valo is a green cheek conure, and he does the same thing sometimes... he'd sit on the perch with his head lowered and twiches with his wings. I generally take it as an invitation (or order, depending on your view-point) saying "take me out, take me out - i wanna cuddle and play"
i'd mention it when you go to the vet (make sure it's an avian vet).

Welcome! I also have a Sun Conure & Bonita makes all kind of noise, always has. I don't know what quiet is anymore. Both my birds do the wing twitching thing. They do it when their happy, comfortable or jealous. I don't think its anything to worry about but do have her checked out by a avian vet. Best of luck. Pics? Crystal
