New Best Friends

Well, we moved Zoey into the living room this morning. We put her in her new cage first to let her hang out and get adjusted to the new room. She likes her cage - jumped from perch to perch and all around and played with her toys. Cosmo was making noises at her and she jumped to the side of the cage to look at him and made some noises back at him. I fed them breakfast and let them chatter back and forth for awhile. Then I got them both out and let them see each other up close. There were a few pecks and a little squabbling - but nothing too awful. I put them on the playstand together and they've been hanging out, playing and preening. Got a couple of good pics of them together. Now to just keep them from over bonding so that they don't lose interest in us!

That is very cute, it looks to me like they've already bonded! I know they are young yet, but are they male and female? That could become an issue down the road. You'd almost think Black Caps and GC's are similar enough to mate?

I do know that Zoey is a female. I'm assuming Cosmo is a male (don't know why just a feeling). I have a test sitting right here that I really need to get the blood sample for and send in! I don't want to get into breeding (even if they were the exact same species I wouldn't want them too) I know they're both in the Pyrrhura family - but don't know how different they are?? I remember reading a post by Monica (I think) to someone about how a black cap and green cheek should not be allowed to breed - but I couldn't really tell you why! They will both always have seperate cages. I will just have to always be diligent in watching them during their play time together. (and get Cosmo DNA'd!)

Yeah I know! Now I just have to worry about them getting along too well! We'll just keep the same routine we have going now - lots of individual time with a human or 2 and supervised play time together. (am I in over my head?? LOL)

( I'm sure Kathie (Calvin's Mom) would tell me I could easily solve my problem by sending Cosmo to her! )
