Head Bobbing

Is head bobbing normal? Ours constantly bobs his head, especially when he sits on my shoulder.

He is begging for food, it is natural. Baby birds do that when they want their parents to feed them, also if your little guy is handreared, he will associate humans with food. I hope he is weaned already. Try giving him a treat.

I think that some see it as part of a courting ritual as well.
I had some positive feed-back from Mom's untamed Tiel when I bobbed my head in his direction. He was very interested in me all of a sudden & less aggressive. I was able to get closer to him & work with him thereafter. When I mentioned it on this board someone pointed out that it could be part of a courting ritual & to be careful not to encourage hormonal behavior.

They also warned about petting - anywhere but around the head – you don’t want a bird who thinks only you belong to them – bonded.

I guess it depends upon the type of bobbing - it could be just a food thing.
