Head Bobbing

Is head bobbing normal? Ours constantly bobs his head, especially when he sits on my shoulder.

I think it is. My birds seem happy when they do the head bob. Esp. For the younger birds that were hand fed - I think some will do it as a feeding/give me attention sort of response. I find as they get a little older they do it less and replace it with other actions.

i'd say yes, under certain circumstances.... Valo "performs" enthusiastic head bobbings whenever he sees someone he loves. he also does it on the shoulder, if i show him something he likes (toy, food etc)
however, if he does it ALL the time, it might be an indication that something's wrong. (they also head bobb when they re-urgitate food which can, but does not have to be, an indication for eg throat infection)

He doesn't really do it all the time. But it seems like he does it alot when he first gets on your shoulder. When I got home tonight and let him out of his cage, he just sat and "talked" and bobbed his little head, and then after about 20 minutes he calmed down. Maybe he was just happy to see me! :)

My GCC does it allt he time, its normally when he is on my shoulder or my dads shoulder, he gets food up most of the time, he does it when we play or make any signal that moves up and down, like when we bend down to him, move ours finger up and down when we wrestle ect. I don't think we're supposed to encourage it and i try to not, coz i dont want birdie vommit on me!!

Conures are known for their head bobs!!! Here's a white eyed and a cherry doing a head bob!

http://www.zippyvideos.com/12568711394475/140-4013_mvi/

My cherry head does similar, although for her they normally consist of stretching her beak up very high, then quickly bringing it down to the front or below her feet... she also does a beak 'swipe' where she tilts her head slightly to the side and "swipes" it across a flat surface. I've seen her do her head bob more than anything else though! But she rarely ever does it if I have the camera with me!

Buddy is a head-bobbing fool, he usually does it when he's excited or really happy! It's almost like a little dance, sometimes fast, then slow, a little beak sweep against my shirt, and occasionally he stretches his neck out really long to press his beak against my cheek and then back to a bob.
He also tries to cough up seeds when he's playing with my fingers, that's a bobbing motion too but usually with the beak open, and you can tell something's trying to come out (although so far unsuccessfully).

I just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents aswell.. my sun conure Max does the head bob ALOT and he mostly does it when I first get home from work or school and I have him on my shoulder. But I've noticed he bobs his head when music that he likes is playing and also when he's eating a special treat or snack. He looks like he's literally dancing for joy when he's got a treat!

I don't know if it's normal or not, but it's really adorable and we love watching him when he does it.
